Lester B. Sparks

Services for Lester B. Sparks, 95, of Lufkin, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Jim Vaughan officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches. Mr. Sparks was born January 14, 1918 in Nacogdoches County, the son of the late Mollie Francis (Rambin) and William Allen Sparks. He passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 in a local hospital. Mr. Sparks was retired from Texas Metal Casting Co. He was one of the members of Fourth & Groesbeck Church of Christ. He was a life member of Nathan Gann Sons of the American Revolution, the Angelina Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and the Angelina Genealogical Society. Mr. Sparks served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged from the 1886th Engineer (Avn) Battalian. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Buckner Sparks of Lufkin; sister, Ruby Sparks Johnson of Nacogdoches; 5 nephews; 3 nieces; and many friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by his infant brother, James Vernon Sparks; infant sister, Mary Helen Sparks; brother, William Sparks; and sister, Ivis DeValcourt.
