Darrell Runyan Obituary

DARRELL RUNYAN Darrell Wayne Runyan, of Las Vegas, passed away Feb. 18, 2011. He was born Nov. 21, 1919 in Ogden, Iowa. Darrell was the first of eight children born to George Runyan and Hazel Dougherty. In 1927, Darrell's family moved to Mariloma, Calif. Darrell graduated from Corona High School in 1936. After graduation, he went to work with the Southern Pacific Railroad. He married Harriett Millbank and they had two children, Susan and Stephen. Darrell was drafted to the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941, during World War II. In 1945, he received an honorable discharge and returned to work with the Southern Pacific Railroad. Dec. 3, 1950, Darrell married Sue Melton, they had one son, Patrick. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, of 60 years; his son, Stephen; parents; and four siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Susan; son, Patrick; brothers, Richard and Michael; sister, Norma; grandchildren, Margaret, Mary Anne, Erin, Robin, Cheryl, Janice, Bradley, Elizabeth and Alex; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. (at Jones and Oakey). Burial will be at noon Monday, Feb. 28, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd. in Boulder City.

Darrell was a wonderful grandpa for Cheryl, Janice and Brad. He will always be remembered. So sorry for the loss of your dad Pat.
