Jean Flowers Obituary

JEAN FLOWERS Jean Yvonne Flowers, 64, of Henderson, returned home to her Heavenly Father Feb. 11, 2010, surrounded by family following a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer. Jean was born Aug. 9, 1945, in San Diego, to Richard Arthur Barlow and Suzanne Yvonne Barlow. She married Terry Austin Flowers May 9, 1965, in Las Vegas, and they were sealed for time and eternity in the St. George Temple Oct. 19, 1985. Jean graduated from Basic High School in Henderson and worked as a child care provider and homemaker for many years. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She loved children and her favorite calling was teaching the primary children and leading them in music. Jean was a devoted wife and mother with many gifts, but the one that brought her the most joy was giving to those in need. She loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. She had a contagious smile and brought joy to everyone she came in contact with. Jean is survived by her husband, Terry Flowers of Henderson; two sons, Shane (Andrea) Flowers of Santaquin, Utah, and Brandon (Tana) Flowers of Henderson; four daughters, April (Mike) Flickinger of Nephi, Utah, Shelly (Kirt) Wilkerson of Springville, Utah, Amy (Ken) Weast of Henderson, and Stephanie (Jeremy) Walker of Lehi, Utah; four brothers, Gary of Henderson, Steve of Woodland, Calif., Jon of Las Vegas, and Greg of Henderson; two sisters, Joyce Pullen of Star, Idaho, and Christy DeHart of Las Vegas; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the medical team who did such a wonderful job in keeping Jean comfortable. In particular, we would like to thank Dr. Rupesh Parikh and his staff for their compassion, love and support. A viewing will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, in Henderson. A second viewing will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, with funeral services following, both at the Henderson Nevada Black Mountain Stake Center, 801 Arrowhead Trail, in Henderson. Jean's body will be laid to rest at the Palm Memorial Park, in Henderson.

I'm saddened to learn just today of Jeans's passing. One of the sweetest memories from my mission in the early 80's is the months we lived in the garage apartment with the Flowers. Terry wasn't yet baptized and I was one of a series of missionaries that taught him the gospel. Jean was always the happiest and most generous of people. I look forward to embracing her again one day.

February 13, 2012

Thinking of her sweet family on the 11th as I'm sure it is a very difficult time of year to go through. I never had the pleasure of meeting her but we were blessed to have met Shane and Brandon in December 2011. She must have been a wonderful mother because they radiated love and kindness. My son, Oliver, is 10 and has been battling a brain tumor for two years. His last radiation treatment was two years ago on February 11th. I was in the hospital recently and thought of Sister Flowers and her family as I realized what day it was. We will always remember her at this time of year as well as the family that is left that are still grieving. So much love to all who knew her and were touched by her life.

To all the Flower Family...she was a wonderful person who will be missed, forever, in my heart...God bless you Terry (and Children) for letting her play such a large part in my life!! I will forever remember the two of you (during my younger years, when she babysat me)....love to you all...

Prayers for the entire family. My son, Oliver, LOVES her son's music and was diagnosed with a brain tumor last December. I'd love to take him to his very first concert to see him. She passed on the last day of Ollie's radiation treatments. I'm sure she was a wonderful mother and wife as well as a friend to those who knew her. Heavenly Father has gained so many sweet spirits this last year. Prayers for continued strength, peace and comfort.

To Brandon and his family on the death of his beloved mother. 'Goodnight, Travel Well' was so well written and speaks to all of us who have lost a loved Mother. May God be with and bless you, Brandon. Your music has gotten me through so many really-tough times. I am 62 and have been to several of your concerts, maybe the oldest fan there. Dear Flowers Family,
i just wanted to let you know how very sorry I am for your loss.
Hope, this lines are hopeful for you:
Job chapter 14 Verses 13-15

Life, like a mist, appears for just a day,
then disappears tomorrow.
All that we are can quickly fade away,
Replaced with tears and sorrow.
If a man should die, can he live again?
Hear the promise God has made:
He will call, The dead will answer.
They shall live at his command.
For he will have a longing
For the work of his own hand.
So have faith, and do not wonder,
For our God can make us stand.
And we shall live forever,
As the work of his own hand.

Friends of our God, though they may pass away, will never be forsaken.
All those asleep who in God´s mem´ry stay, from death he will awaken.
Then we´ll come to see all that life can be:
Paradise eternally
He will call; the dead will answer.
They shall live at his command.
For he will have a longing
for the work of his own hand.
So have faith, and do not wonder,
For our God can make us stand.
And we shall live forever, as the work of his own hand.

I am sorry for your loss to the family . I only got to meet Jean and Terry in 2008 with my new wife Karen. Karen & the Flowers family always stayed in touch. After being welcome in their home. I got to know there family a little . From finding out there son Brandon was the Lead singer and song writer of the Killers . I found them to be so proud of there son. Brandon helped with making his Mom & Dad's home a place where Jean could get around. As I saw the first time I was there it was not just on son that helped with things around there home. All of their kids helped in so many ways also this was not just a one man show it was all of the family that helped all of their kids and grandkids also the members of there ward was right there to give a hand when they asked. I could feel the spirit in Terry & Jean's home . I know that they Loved Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father and knows the plan they have in store for us.
When I got to see Jean for the last time on this earth what I did not see was a Rock Star that made money and then his brother and sisters with the rest of the Family . I saw in Brandon a son that he Loved his Mom so very much and his Father along side his sisters and brother and many more grandkids & great- grandkids a family knowing where there Mom is and the joy that they know of the rest she has now and the Love she will give others in this place. I hope and plan with my wife Karen to stay in touch with Terry and the rest of them and feel the Love they give to others. Terry & Jean with there family will be together as Family are forever just like the song we sing in church and at her sevice. Peace & Love to the Flowers Family.

I know how much Brandon loved his mother, and that alone told all of us fans that she was such a wonderful woman. The way he talked about her with such devotion was heartwarming for all of us, and I hope now that the Flowers' family pull through the grief of such an important woman's death. I'm sure every one of the victims would have loved to meet her, knowing how much she meant to her family. I hope that she rests in peace now, and that she is in a better place. I do not know the Flowers family; however, I came across the obituary while I trying to find tour info. for her son's band. Sister Flowers seems to have led an exemplary life. Her devotion to her family and friends show her to be a mother living the Gospel. I am so thankful for the gift of the sealing of a family. I know our Heavenly Father loves us, and is always there to comfort us in our time of need. Mothers are so important, and their impact is so far reaching!
