Ernest Carlton Lewis
Fort Valley, GA- Ernest Carlton Lewis, 77, died Friday, February 15, 2013, after an extended illness. Services will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, February 18, 2013, in the Chapel of Rooks Funeral Home, 109 West White Road in Byron, with Rev. Jay Lauritsen officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Family will greet friends from 1:00PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, please contact the family concerning donations.
Carlton was born in Pulaski County on April 25, 1935, to Ollie T. and Edna Singleton Lewis. As a young man, he worked with his parents and other family members in farming. He later began work in the textile industry and retired from the Bibb Company in Macon. In his retirement years, he throughly enjoyed his vegetable gardens and took great pride in the results. His favorite items were tomatoes, peppers, and okra. He was a kind and gentle person who was always eager to help family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and four siblings. He is survived by his sisters, Bessie Dukes, Leila Mills, Gertrude Hollaway, Mattie Alvarez, Lola Ann Highsmith, and Mary Zumack, and a number of nieces and nephews.

To all of the family of Carlton Lewis. My heart is filled with sorrow during this time of grief for you all. Hold on to all of your wonderful memories you have shared with him. It is a blessing to know that he is in Heaven with the rest of the family members that have gone on before him. It is never good bye it until we meet again. PEACE BE STILL!!!!!!
