William Tomey Obituary
Georgetown, TX- A graveside funeral service for William Hayes Tomey, 94, who passed away Feb. 22, 2017, in Georgetown, Texas and his wife, Attelia Vickers Tomey, 89, who passed away April 14, 2015, in Austin, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2017 at Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick, Georgia. Rev. Jim McIlrath of First Methodist Church of Brunswick, Georgia will be officiating.
Attelia grew up in Brunswick, Georgia and graduated from Glynn Academy in 1945. She was the daughter of the late Harry Bernard Vickers, Sr. and Essie Tucker Vickers.
Bill was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Ohio State University Dental School. He was the son of William Richter Tomey (Col. U.S. Army Ret.) and Ruth Hayes Tomey.
Bill and Attelia were married in Brunswick. After serving in the Air Force for 29 years they retired to Macon, Georgia for 37 years, and in 2012 moved to Texas to be near family. They were married for 68 years.
They are survived by their daughter, Deborah Tomey Russell and son-in-law, Robert Allen Russell, Sr. of Austin, Texas; their son, William Vickers Tomey of Selma, Alabama; and grandsons, Robert Allen Russell, Jr. of Austin, Texas, and Christopher Sean Russell of San Diego, California.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Richard Tomey and wife, Linda of Waynesboro, Virginia; and his sister, Barbara Hoberecht of Gallatin Gateway, Montana.
Attelia was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harry Bernard Vickers, Jr., and sister-in-law, Carolan Salley Vickers.
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, Brunswick, Georgia, is in charge of arrangements.
