Brian Bradstreet Obituary

ALBION -- Brian Edward Bradstreet, 58, of Albion, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a sudden onset of leukemia.

Brian was born in Bangor on June 30, 1951, the son of Donald and Virginia (Rowe) Bradstreet. He graduated from Lawrence High School and Unity College where he played basketball. He lived in Albion for his entire life.

He was employed as an industrial electrician and for 34 years was the proud member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1253. To his union brothers and sisters he was known as "Stretch" because of his 6-foot 7-inch stature.

Brian was a Harley enthusiast. His passion was his family, his sons, his immediate family and his large extended family of Bradstreets and Rowes. He took great joy in unmercifully teasing and playing jokes on his parents, sons, and three nephews and earning a reputation of being "a character."

He was predeceased by his father, Donald Bradstreet.

Brian is survived by his mother, Virginia Bradstreet of Albion; two sons, Staff Sergeant Seth Bradstreet, Army, and his wife, Ashley, of Killeen, Texas, and Ryan Bradstreet of Albion; two sisters, Jane Hamilton and her husband, Sonny, of Albion, and Peg Bradstreet of South Portland; three nephews, Matthew Hamilton and his wife, Amy, of Brunswick, Mark Hamilton and his wife, Christina, of Albion, and Joshua Bradstreet of South Portland; four grandnieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 173 China Road, Winslow, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8. Burial will follow at Number Four Cemetery in Albion. A reception at Sonny and Jane Hamilton's home, 250 Benton Road in Albion, will follow the burial.

The family would like to thank MaineGeneral Emergency Department in Waterville for their quick response and to the physicians and nurses at Maine Medical Center in Portland for their caring and compassion.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Brian's memory to International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 1253, 50/50 Benefit Fund, 176 Main St., Fairfield, ME 04937. This fund assists union families in crisis.

Dear Mrs. Bradstreet,Peg.Jane and the rest of the family,

We are so sorry to hear about the very sudden loss of Brian. I remember getting a ride on Brian's motorcycle when I was back in college. He spent a few days back then at Peg's and my apartment and we didn't have a long enough couch for him! Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficult time.

To the entire Bradstreet family I would like to extend my deepest sympathies. I met Brian at Unity College and played a lot of basketball with him. Brian was such a pleasure to be around and always had a smile on his face. I have many memories of those days. He is now with the Lord and probably figuring out how to play jokes on the souls in Heaven.

We will miss Brian very much,we always looked forward to seeing him at family gatherings He would always have something interesting to say and shared his good humor with everyone. He was espically excited about his work on the new Penobscot bridge and shared the photos, he had taken while on the job, with us. We hope for peace and the warmth of family for his loved ones

Brian thanks for sharing your life with me. I have so many memories---who else would give me my first ride on the back of a bicycle ( sorry I broke the spokes when my foot went inside them). Remember scaring the daylights out of my sisters and me by scratching on the camp walls at night pretending to be a bat. From being a great cousin, to a wonderful father and son, to always being there thank you. All those meals at your mom and dad's camp on China Lake, playing Monopoly until late in to the night and going on the annual Memorial Day trips to the cemeteries are only a few memories. Thank you.

I just read the shocking news of Brian's passing. Although I hadn't seen him in years, I will never forget him. I can still see his sub-primary (that's what it was called back then) picture!! And who could forget watching Brian running down the basketball court. Please know that I'm thinking of all of you at this most difficult time.

Virginia, Jane Sonny and Peg and familys, My heart goes out to all of you. So hard to believe my buddy Brian has passed. I can not count the many time Brian has made me smile. I know there is nothing I can do to help fill the void Brian has left in your lives. I hope the memories can help to warm your hearts. Love, Brenda

We are so very sorry for your loss.

He was definitely a "character".
He certainly kept a good many of us entertained and laughing hysterically.
We all wanted to hear what "Stretch" had to say!
He was a good man....and a good man to have on our side.
He will be missed by many.
