Marcia Caveny Obituary

BURNHAM -- Marcia L. Caveny, 67, died at her home on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009.

She was born in Wellesley, Mass., the daughter of George Henry and Margaret Emma (Goullaud) Rugg.

She graduated from Arlington High School and received her degree in computer science from the University of Maine at Augusta. She retired in 2008 from Occupational Health Research in Skowhegan.

Marcia was married to Charles Timothy Caveny for 41 years. They raised two children and lived in Burnham for most of their married life.

She was a member of First Universalist Church and president of the Ladies Aid Society. She loved to help and organize many of their functions. She belonged to AA and was very proud of her 21 years of sobriety.

Marcia was a champion shopper, always on the lookout for a bargain. She was a gourmet cook, enjoying new recipes yet working her magic with leftovers. She was a very hard worker and was not afraid to try something new. She was a skilled seamstress, making quilts as well as clothes; she lovingly made her daughter's wedding dress.

Marcia was a passionate and talented photographer and loved to share her beautiful photos with family and friends.

She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Timothy Caveny of Burnham; her daughter, Margaret Leah Piatt and her husband, Gunnery Sgt. William E. Piatt, of Richlands, N.C.; her son, Timothy Noah Caveny and his wife, Jacklyn Marie, of Dallas; her five grandchildren, Caleb Noah, Cadence Leah, Asa Littlewood, Michaela Grace and Maxine Elizabeth; her sister, Cynthia Louise Rugg of Medford, Mass.; her two brothers, William Carter Rugg and his wife, Jeanne, of Falmouth, Mass., and Dr. Peter Warren Rugg and his wife, Patricia, of Worcester, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at First Universalist Church, Easy Street, in Pittsfield, with the Rev. Margaret Beckman officiating. A time of refreshment will follow.

Should friends desire, contributions in Marcia's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074.

To Leah, Noah and Tim. I'm very sad to hear the news that Marcia has passed on. I have fond memories of growing up over at the house. One that always makes me smile is the time Leah had her garden birthday party and our friend Candace broke her glasses. She kept them on without the lens in and Marcia did not notice for what seemed like hours and we were all laughing so hard. She could not figure out what was so funny. (We finally let her in on the joke.) Please know that my prayers are with you all. Pamela Miller (Fletcher)

Marcia will be dearly missed by the wide range of friends whose lives she touched. Her soft-spoken manner allowed her message to be meaningful to those who shared many Thursday evenings with her. May Marcia's family be especially proud of her servuce to her friends and associates.

Marcia was one of my dearest friends. She certainly was a woman who lived life to its fullest. We spent many a day traveling about the coast of Maine, shopping for bargains or simply talking on the phone about the trials and tribulations of life. I feel as though a part of me died when Marcia died. To Tim, Leah, Noah and their families and to Marcia's sister, brothers and families I extend my deepest sympathy. A beautiful light has left this earth and leaves us all very sad.
