Anne Emmons Obituary

Anne MacDougall Emmons
SCARBOROUGH -- Anne MacDougall Emmons, of Scarborough, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, surrounded by her loving family and compassionate caregivers at Piper Shores.
Born on Feb. 27, 1926, Anne grew up on a peach and apple farm in Hammonton, N.J., with three older brothers whom she adored. She was the daughter of Edith Hodgson MacDougall and Walter Burroughs MacDougall. She graduated from Douglass College for Women with a major in home economics and nutrition which served her well in teaching, and then in raising her family, as well as in her many volunteer roles.
Anne met her husband, Jack, while working in the Atlantic City Electric Company in Hammonton, N.J. They married on Nov. 3, 1951, and raised a family of 3 children in Sweetwater and on Centennial Lake in New Jersey and spent all of their summers on the coast of Maine in Biddeford Pool. After Jack passed away, Anne moved to Piper Shores in Scarborough in 2004 to be closer to her family. She made wonderful new friends there and enjoyed working in the library, playing tennis, bridge, and dominoes. She loved living on the ocean year round.
An energetic woman who enjoyed people, Anne was the wedding coordinator in the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown (N.J.) and later became a deacon there. She was active in her children's lives and among other volunteer capacities was president of the AFS at Moorestown Friends School.
Anne was a gift to us all from a very generous Giver. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. She was a conduit for goodness, love, and grace. She believed in the simple things in life - the joy of family, good food, an appreciation for the beauty of this Earth, and especially the cooing and laughter of a baby. She was fortunate to have been a great-grandmother!
An incredibly loving and caring person she always
Anne MacDougall Emmons
had a smile, kind words and strong hugs for her family and friends. Anne's generosity toward her family knew no bounds. She was happiest when surrounded by them and simply could not do enough for her mother, her husband, and especially her children and grandchildren. A constant source of support, we will miss her unconditional love which always recharged our batteries.
Anne was predeceased by her husband, Jack Emmons; and her brother, Charles MacDougall. Anne is survived by her three children, Jay Emmons, his wife Bonnie of Dedham, Mass., and their children, Nathaniel, Andrew and Molly; Sissy Emmons Buck, her husband Sandy Buck of Cumberland Foreside, and their children, Sarah and her husband Johnny Ritzo, Alex Buck and his wife Allie and their two sons, Angus and Arlo; and by Elizabeth Page, her husband Chris of Santa Barbara, Calif., and their children, Jack and Samantha. She is also survived by her twin brothers, Howard MacDougall and his wife Dorothy, and Robert MacDougall and his wife Kathleen; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the dedicated, caring staff in Assisted Living at Piper Shores, especially Terry Mullarkey, and to the wonderful, compassionate caregivers who took such good care of mom. We also thank the VNA Hospice of South Portland for their help and support in the final weeks. Mom loved all of you like family. We would also like to thank the Alzheimer's Association of Maine for their words of advice and insights to this disease.
A service will be held in honor of Anne on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m., at the Union Church in Biddeford Pool. Arrangements are by the Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland.

To Anne's Family,
Although we were only neighbors for 3+ years in Centennial Lake, we always
remember your Mother as being a wonderfully kind and beautiful woman.
She was blessed to have such a full life and an adoring family by her side.
She will always be with you in spirit.
With our deepest sympathy,

I'll never forget the first time i met your mom and dad in BP. it was a hot summer day during a day off from Kieve. your mom brought me into the kitchen and poured me a glass of lemonade then took me out into the den/living room to meet your dad. they instantly made me feel at home. they will always be with us. how great that they are finally back together watching the sun sink into the west, listening to the sea crash against the rocks, squeezing more lemons for anyone who stops by, and snuggling up by the fire. Love you lots,
HRK and Beej
