Doug had a way about him that he could just state the obvious in a non-threatening way that worked wonders in IEP's and with students. My daughter who was a Baxter/Portland student and I will miss him greatly, he was such a support!
Our prayers are with his family.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are hanging at the lake enjoying the horseshoes. Spending hours watching my dad and Doug play cribbage while chilling on the "dead bed". Later playing golf and learning great life lessons. In fact the first and only time I was mooned on a golf coarse was by Doug from the 8th green at Valhalla. What a great character

I had the pleasure of meeting Doug 6 years ago when my child arrived at Baxter. Doug was a caring person and supportive. He touched many lives and will be missed.

Doug was one of our first contacts when we moved to Maine from out of state, his calm nature and true care for his students was so refreshing. And he could calm an explosive IEP meeting like no other! I didn't know Doug well, but he left an impression on me that will last a lifetime.

Uncle Doug was one of the funniest people I've ever met (except I didn't think it was too funny when he told be that a snapping turtle was about to bite my toe at camp and I panicked and fell off the float)...must have been 35 years ago!
My kids never called him Uncle or Gunk, to them he was always Professor Dumbledore. Yes, Doug was a funny guy. I'll miss watching Dave (his brother) open Doug's crazy Christmas and birthday presents. My favorite was the "make your own labrador retriever".
Dave R. Moody...you are an amazing man. I'm sure that your father's journey to the end was made the best it could be because of your loving care.
I'm so bummed that I can't get up to Maine for the celebration...play some Grateful Dead music from me! I'll wear my tie dye t-shirt on Saturday in his honor!
Love, Missy

Doug had a gentle soul and spirit. I will surely remember his laugh and smile, a privilege to have known him and, when I think of him, I shall smile also.

I've known "Moody" since I was in kindergarten. I am now a senior in high school. I always saw him around Baxter and he was always willing to chat with us. I will really miss him.

So many memories, so much laughter from so long ago. As close buddies at Greely during the crazy 1960's, I recall Doug and I "sleeping out" in the hay barn as the pretense for countless night time raids on the "Center", laughing in tears over Klunk War cartoons drawn and passed in math class, lavacol squirting fights in biology lab, tormenting wonderful old dog "Farting Blackie", stealing dozens of wood slab "bump" signs, plotting and living through hundreds of schemes and misadventures. So many years later, thoughts of those wonderful days still make me laugh out loud, and at this sad moment I wish we had one more chance to laugh together. Thank you for everything old friend, rest well.

I've not met many people like Doug who have such a calm and gentleness about them. It was a pleasure to know and work with him and he is already greatly missed.

Webster defines "Uncle" as: one who helps, advises, or encourages. Although your nieces and nephew's called you "Doug" and your great nieces and nephews called you "Gunk", you were truly an "Uncle" and Great Uncle to us all. Your stories, witt and laughter will be greatly missed especially during the holiday get togethers and days at Forest Lake.
We love you and will always hold you close at heart always.
Love Kim
