Louis Zglobicki Obituary

Louis J. Zglobicki, 67
PORTLAND -- Dr. Louis J. Zglobicki, 67, of Cumberland Foreside, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 20, 2011, at Maine Medical Center.
He was born in New York City, the son of Wanda and Mieczyslaw Zglobicki. He graduated from New England College of Optometry, and then served in the U.S. Navy. After discharge, he practiced optometry in Falmouth and Scarborough.
An avid gardener and recreational fisherman, he eagerly looked forward to participating in the annual Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby. Louie was appointed to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and New England Fisheries Council, member of Portland Surfcasters, Falmouth Lions Club, and the Polish National Alliance. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Yarmouth.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Diane (Warren) Zglobicki of Cumberland Foreside; daughter Andrea, son Matthew and wife Molly; grandson Owen; sister Genevieve; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Despite his birth in New York, Louie was a devoted Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. As much as he will be missed, we know he has found his 'secret' fishing spot in heaven.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, May 25, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 26, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 326 Main St., Yarmouth.

I was so happy to spend time with Louie Thursday and see that he was doing so much better. Even though we talked of the details which ended up putting him in Maine Med, he soon turned the concern to my younger daughter on her recent auto accident and her good recovery. Just like Louie to focus on the needs of others.
We talked about getting the boat into the water soon. We couldn’t wait to experience another year of “Heaven on Earth” in Casco Bay.
Shortly after, I get the news Louie is gone. So shocked…I’m so devastated.
I feel I will not be able let go any time soon. I have lost one of my closest friends and we have all lost a truly wonderful man.
I always felt such peace, whether it was seeing him to my side in the surf, or across the way at early mass.
I will be with him, thinking of him and most probably talking to him as I fish the grassy flats of Board Cove,, Snake Tongue, Back Channel, Eel Pond, Monica’s and a thousand other favorite fishing spots where we spent time together. He was a friend but even more, he was a mentor. I studied under a master. God could not have given me better guidance than the life example of Louis. I try to tell myself that the loss I feel now should not shadow the tremendous wealth of life that I received from him while he was here.

I pray that peace be with his beautiful family. He loved them more than anything. There wasn’t a time we pulled out of the landing that he didn’t speak of the house Diane grew up in as we stopped at the sign. His son and daughter were his pride. The only time I saw Louie “silly” with happiness was talking about the birth of his grandson. He loved them so much.

In God’s love I pray.
