Shirley Babb, 92
YARMOUTH -- Shirley White Babb, 92, of North Yarmouth, died on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, after a period of declining health.
She was born in Portland on Aug. 6, 1918, the daughter of the late William J. White and Hermie Brand White. Mrs. Babb was an honor graduate of South Portland High School, Class of 1937, and of Westbrook Junior College in 1940.
She was employed as secretary to the Principal of South Portland High School for a number of years and later as secretary to the Head of the English Department, University of Maine, Orono.
Mrs. Babb traveled extensively with her Navy husband, James R. Babb, who predeceased her in August 1996. She was a member of the Portland Yacht Club, the Washington National Cathedral, a Life Member of the Wives of Submarine Veterans of World War II, Friends of Casco Bay and Friends of the Royal River. She attended St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, Yarmouth.
Mrs. Babb is survived by her nephews, Henry G. Beyer and Edmund B. Beyer, her niece, Sherrie Singer; and her niece-in-law, Mrs. Robin Singer.
A memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 396 Gilman Rd., Yarmouth, at a later time. Please visit www.lindquistfuneralhome.com to share your condolences, memories and tributes with Mrs. Babb's family.
