Grace Williams Obituary

Grace A. Davenport Williams, 84
PORTLAND -- Grace A. Davenport Williams, 84, of Forest Avenue, went to the arms of her Lord on April 21, 2011, at Maine Medical Center. Born on July 18, 1926, in Phillips, she was the daughter of Ronald and Eunice Walsh. She had a joyful life on the farm in Phillips as a child.
After her marriage to John Newton Davenport on June 10, 1942, they moved to Portland. They had four children, John, Linda, Teresa and Gene.
She worked as a housekeeper for many years and cared very much for those families. At age 62, she retired and devoted her remaining years to her family and her church, Little Falls Baptist Church in Gorham.
On Dec. 13, 1977, she married Albert (Monk) Williams and had five stepchildren, Carolyn, Paul, Theresa, Craig and Mark and loved them like her own children.
She was predeceased by John, Albert, Linda, Paul and Craig. Surviving her are her sons, John Davenport and his wife Ann, Gene Davenport and his wife Becky, her daughter, Teresa Earley; her stepchildren, Carolyn, Theresa and Mark; and her sister, Hazel Gordon. She was lovingly known as Nana by her surviving grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday at the chapel. Nana, you were such an important part of our lives - always there - always contributing - always thoughtful. It will be very difficult to say goodbye. I knew your end was near, but I guess I thought your end would just always be near, but never actually here. I hope you are looking down on us realizing just how truly loved you were. Love and miss you, Terri
