WINDHAM -- J. Loretta McLellan, 78, of Windham, died on April 20, 2011, after a courageous nine year battle with Alzheimer's. Loretta passed away peacefully at the Ledgewood Manor in Windham.
She was born on Aug. 19, 1932, in Madawaska, the daughter of late Sam and Laura Beaulieu. She was the second oldest of four siblings. On May 2, 1952, she married Wesley Merton McLellan, who survives her.
She graduated from Windham High School in Windham in 1951. Before marriage, she worked at Benoit's and later in the 1960s worked at Sylvania.
She lovingly raised four children, Bruce, Crystal, Judy and Michael; and adored her 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her interest included crocheting, playing accordion and organ, gardening, knowing all the scientific names for plants and flowers, bird watching, picking wild berries and nuts, dancing (night and day), sky watching (day and night), psychology, drawing, making good home cooking, and baking the best chocolate chip cookies EVER.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley Merton McLellan; brother Edward Beaulieu; her son Bruce McLellan and his wife Sandra Hodgdon, her daughter Crystal Copp and her husband Donald Copp, her daughter Judy Cronan and her husband Allen Cronan, her son Michael and his wife Suzanne McLellan; grandchildren, Justin McLellan, Ryan Cronan, Joshua McLellan, Jessica McLellan, Brandy Cobbett (Jeff) Janel Copp Peterson (Andy), Margaret McLellan, Jake McLellan, Jarrod McLellan, Kevin McLellan and Julia McLellan. She is also survived by friends, Laura Rhodes, Lucy Seile, Polly Varney and Marilyn Kennie. Loretta was preceded in death by her dad and mom, Sam and Laura Beaulieu; brother John Beaulieu, brother Phillip Beaulieu; and friend, Georgia (Steeves) Therio.
Visiting hours will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Arlington Cemetery, Windham. Following the graveside service a reception will follow at the Masonic Hall Presumpscot Lodge, 964 River Rd., Windham. Online condolences may be made to www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com.
