Leona H. (Smart) Ryan, 89
BANGOR -- Leona H. (Smart) Ryan, 89, died Thursday May 12, 2011, at a Bangor Hospital. She was born March 20, 1922 in Corinth, the daughter of Elmer and Minette (Andrews) Smart.
Leona was educated in the Corinth and Bangor school systems. She married John G. Ryan on Sept. 9, 1942 and together they traveled as John was in the Military and Civil Service. Leona enjoyed fresh flowers, shopping, big band music, and ballroom dancing at the Beech Grove Dance Hall. She loved being with her family and all her nieces and nephews.
Leona is survived by her sisters, Nathalie Stone and her husband Donald of Falmouth, and Loraine Hill and her husband Irvin of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews including special niece and caregiver Leanne Cox. In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was predeceased by her sister Lenora Peters; and nephews, Archie Curry Jr., and Wray Hodges.
Friends are welcome to call 4-6 p.m. Sunday May 15, at Brookings - Smith 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Monday May 16. Following the service Interment will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. Following services friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings - Smith 163 Center St., Bangor. Nathalie and family, I know Sister lived a long life, I am so happy for that, and that she and Francis spent time together as children and until he was gone. We shall miss them both and need to be grateful that they did live their lives the way they wanted. I will see you on Monday. God Bless you all. Love Gail
