Elmer Maye Obituary
GORHAM -- Elmer A. Maye, 98, of North Street, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011, after a short stay at 'The Cedars.'
He was born on Sept. 26, 1912, in Stevensville, Mont., the son of Chester A. and Gertrude H. Maye.
Elmer was a 65 year member of the First Baptist Church of Westbrook and later was a member of the Little Falls Baptist Church in Gorham.
For three years Elmer was in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was later employed at Lucas Brick Yard, S.D. Warren and then retired from Oakhurst Dairy after 32 years.
Elmer was predeceased by his wife, Vira E. Maye; son, Richard D. Maye; and several siblings.
He enjoyed being home puttering in his workshop, busy in the yard and gardens, doing crossword puzzles and never missing a Red Sox game.
He is survived by daughter-in- law, Frances M. Maye; granddaughters, Sheila M. Young, Lorrie M. Gallant, Wendy M. Gilliam; sons-in-law, Ronald P. Young, Kenneth R. Gallant and Timothy A. Gilliam; great-grandchildren, Daniel R. Young, Jennifer M. MacDonald, Jared A. Gilliam; and nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 16, at 2 p.m., at the North Street Cemetery, Rt. 114, Gorham. Arrangements are by the Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.
In lieu of flowers, Elmer
would like donations be made
to the Gorham Rescue.

I worked in the Oakhurst Dairy office in the early 1960's. I was always impressed with what a fine gentleman Elmer was..very kind and friendly. I makes me smile now to remember that at first I was sure he said his name was Alma! Fortunately, I never addressed him that way. So sorry for your loss of a wonderful man.

Thank GOD for Uncle Elmer and the knowledge he passed on. Can you even image the changes he saw through his life time!! I just hope I can experince 1/2 of the things he did!! I remember when Uncle Elmer & Aunt Vi bought the old school house and made it their home. I was one of the lucky ones to receive a chalkboard from that school. Hours of fun in front of that chalkboard as a child but hours cleaning up the chalk dust also!! My heart goes out to Shelia, Laurie & Wendy, The Baby!! Sorry Wendy I just had to do it!! Grandfathers are GREAT I know it will be rough going in the next couple weeks but HIS LOVE will pull you through. Cheri
