Norma Doody Obituary

Norma Lee (Morancy) Doody, 66
SCARBOROUGH -- Norma Lee Doody, 66, of South Portland, passed away on June 12, 2011, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, after a courageous battle with cancer with family members by her side.
She was born on Oct. 8, 1944, in Old Town, the daughter of Ethel (LeBreton) Psomiades and Albert Morancy. She graduated from Thornton Academy High School in 1962. She married John P. Doody of Scarborough in 1968. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Portland.
Norma and her husband had two sons, Sean and Edward (Ned), which they raised in Scarborough. When her children were grown Norma worked at Hannaford supermarket and Mr. Bagel in South Portland where she loved to talk to her customers.
Norma enjoyed spending time with her family and brought joy to her two granddaughters, nieces and nephews and countless friends. She was full of life and found connections with everyone she met and made many friends over the years. She cared for her aunt Lil and her parents while they were ill before their passing.
Norma enjoyed candlepin bowling and was a member of Big 20 Bowling league for many years. Her hobbies included ceramics, cooking, sewing, card games and traveling with her husband to Newfoundland. She was big fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots and would call her sons to complain about them when they lost.
Norma is survived by her husband, John Doody of South Portland; her sister, Linda Kimball and her husband George Kimball of Rumford; a son, Sean and his wife Robin of Durham, N.H., and their daughters, Maegan and Regan Lily, and a son, Ned and Louise Jones of Rye, N.H. Norma was predeceased by her father, Albert Morancy, her mother, Ethel Psomiades; and stepfather, Van Psomiades.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hobbs Funeral Home in South Portland. A funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Portland on Friday, June 17, at 10 a.m.
