Stanley Williams, 89
BOOTHBAY HARBOR -- Stanley Williams, 89, died on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at St. Andrews Village Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor.
He was born on Nov. 9, 1921, in Suffern, N.Y., to Thomas L. Williams and Clara Baird Williams. Stanley grew up in Highland Falls, N.Y. The family later moved to Suffern, N.Y. and Mahwah, N.J. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed at the Panama Canal.
He worked in Mahwah for Ward Pavements Company for 20 years. He later owned and operated Milford Asphalt Company for 15 years until he retired to Ocean Point in 1981. In retirement, he worked for Poole Brothers Lumber in Boothbay Harbor for 10 years.
Stanley was a 32nd Degree member of Bay View Masonic Lodge in East Boothbay, and the Shriners. He also served on several boards in Boothbay. He and his wife Ruth loved to travel, traveling to Mexico, Ireland, Nova Scotia and enjoyed going to the 'Tattoo' in Halifax for many years. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, cooking and a good glass of scotch.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Courtney Williams who died on Aug. 12, 2010; a sister, Lucille Witmer, and brothers, John 'Bud' Williams and Bertram 'Skeet' Williams. He is survived by two sons, Peter Williams and his wife Mary of East Boothbay, Llewellyn Williams and his wife Laurie of Harriman, N.Y., daughter, Kathleen Herrington and her husband Gary of Wyomissing, Pa.; sister, Beth Linton of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and grandchildren, Christopher Williams of Somerville, Mass., Brian Williams and his wife Julie of Bangor, Patrick Herrington and his wife Melissa of St. Petersburg, Fla., Daniel Herrington and his wife Jessica of St. Petersburg, Fla., Melissa Williams of Harriman, N.Y., and Michael Williams of Harriman, N.Y.
