Jane Marshall Coleman

1930 - 2014

Jane Coleman, (nee Marshall), age 84, went home to be with the Lord on September 25, 2014. She was born January 24, 1930 in Wilmington, DE to Roland and Lillian (nee Elliott) Marshall. Jane married Coates Coleman III on April 2, 1956. They moved to Fairfax DE and eventually built a gentlemen's farm in Westtown, PA. She was a mother first, and took great pride in her sons, John, Tom and David. She graduated from the University of Delaware where she earned a BA in teaching. She taught second grade and kindergarten at Upland Country Day School. Being the mother of three boys, she eventually retired from teaching. Later, she and Coates moved to St. David's and were members of Church of the Savior in Wayne, PA., there they were active and mentored younger married couples. They did a lot of traveling to many forgotten parts of the world and were extremely generous to those in need. She and Coates loved to entertain and Jane created her art in the kitchen. A wonderful cook, she looked forward to preparing meals for her family and friends. Their home was always open to those who needed a place to stay. When Coates passed in 2007, Jane moved to Willow Valley in Lancaster where many of her friends lived. She enjoyed her time there cooking and entertaining. She remained steadfast in her love of the Lord. She is survived by her sons John Coleman (Cheryl), Ambler, PA and Thomas Coleman (Wendy), Berwyn, PA, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Jane was predeceased by her husband Coates, her son David, granddaughter Gabrielle, and her brother Calvin. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11 at 1030 a.m., Lakes Manor at Willow Valley, Thomas Auditorium 4th floor, 300 Lakes Drive, Willow Valley, PA. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard St. Alexandria, VA 22311, Opportunity International, 2122 York Road, Suite 150, Oak Brook, IL 60523 or the charity of your choice.
