Robert Schonauer Obituary

Rev. Robert Harold Schonauer

MANSFIELD: "The man who walks with God always reaches his destination!" Rev. Robert Schonauer dedicated his life to serving God and others as a pastor. Although he will be greatly missed, his ministry will live on through the lives of the many people he touched.

Reverend Robert Harold Schonauer went to be with the Lord Sunday May 1, 2016 from Winchester Terrace Nursing Home in Mansfield following an extended Alzheimer's diagnosis. He was 82.

Robert was born August 6, 1933 in Mansfield to parents Harold R. & Marguerite (Snair) Schonauer. He was a graduate of Dayton Bible College and served as the minister of Sunnydale Open Bible Church for many years in Mansfield.

On August 9, 1952, he married Barbara J. Long and together raised five children. They enjoyed nearly 56 wonderful years of marriage until Barb passed away in May of 2008. They are now together again.

Robert also worked for Warren Rupp as a machinist and retired after 13 years. In spare time he liked to go fishing and enjoyed all kinds of sports. But above all, he was active with his congregation and took pleasure in his pastoral duties at Open Bible Church.

He is survived by five children Carol Schonauer Osburn of Mansfield, Mark Schonauer of Mansfield, Juanita & Mike Thompson of Galion, Teresa & Danny McCall of Urbana, and Dick & Shelly Craig of Urbana; ten grandchildren Rev. Robert Jr., Rev. Schawn, and Eric Osburn, Shawna and C.J. Schonauer, Megan, Stephen, and Brandon Thompson, Nori Fesse, and Bill Herron; eleven great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Skylar, Robert III, and Ava Osburn, Jani, Kayla, and Christopher Herron, Isabella and Seajai Osburn, and Caleigha Fesse; one great-great-grandson Graysyn Osburn Hutchins; seven siblings Wayne & Karen Schonauer of Minerva, Jerry Rondy of Mansfield, Larry & Janet Rondy of Lexington, Wendy & Doug Rapp of Hopedale, Clara & Bill Knee of League City, TX, Judy & Phil Hamilton of Mansfield, and Richard Schonauer; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Carol Ann Rondy, and a brother Leroy Rondy.

Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring his life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday and Dr. John D. Freeman will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Contributions in his memory to benefit his family (please make checks payable to Juanita Thompson) may be made at his services.
