Keith Bowen Obituary

Keith Douglas Bowen

MANSFIELD: Keith Douglas Bowen, 57, of Mansfield passed away quietly on Thursday morning, December 5, 2013 after a brave battle with renal disease. He was born February 14, 1956 to Gary and June (Beaire) Bowen.

He was a 1974 graduate of Malabar High School and a graduate of Hocking Technical College with an Associate Degree as a naturalist. Keith retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol after 26 years of service as a Drivers License Examiner. He used to joke that he was the most hated person of teenagers in Richland County.

Keith lived in Mansfield his entire life except for a brief adventure in California with his best friend, Christopher Moore. In 2002, he moved back into his childhood home, which brought him great joy and an opportunity to continue the landscaping projects his father created many years ago. Keith married Kathy Becker in 1987 and they shared 26 wonderful years of wedded bliss. Their favorite vacations together were the ones with no set destination and no itinerary.

He considered his greatest accomplishment to be his two beautiful daughters, Cassandra "Casey" June Bowen, a senior at Ohio University and Emily Renee' Bowen, a sophomore at The University of Cincinnati. They were the loves of his life! He strived to instill in them his love of nature and they spent many of his days off hiking and taking day trips.

Keith is survived by his wife, Kathy Bowen; daughters, Cassandra and Emily Bowen; sister, Deb (Rick) Spriestersbach; sisters-in-law, Karen (Bryan) Flowers, Judy (Dave) Hedrick, Lori (Mark) Furtak and Sang-mi Bowen; nephews, Heath Spriestersbach, Mark (Beth) Hedrick, Chad (Forever) Hedrick, Kyle (Maria) Hedrick, Jacob Flowers; nieces, Shannon (Greg) Eller, Kathleen Flowers, Erin Furtak; great-niece, Maddie Hedrick; great-nephew, Dylan Weekley; dear friends, Ginger, Janny, Chris, Mike, Todd and many more, too numerous to list. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and June Bowen; brother, Greg Bowen; and nephew, Gabriel Spriestersbach.

The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be in the funeral home Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Faith Proietti officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family for the college funds of his daughters, a goal Keith supported and was proud to help his daughters achieve.
