Cletus E. Wheeler

GALION: Cletus E. Wheeler, 82, of Galion, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Galion Community Hospital.

Born May 8, 1929 in Bellaire, Ohio, he was the son of the late Samuel T. and Irene V. (Cartwright) Wheeler. He married Margaret M. "Peggy" Kennedy on May 7, 1949 who survives.

Cletus graduated from Bellaire High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950. He and his family moved to Mansfield in 1960 and to Galion in 1974. Cletus worked as a machinist at Bunting Bearings (formerly B-Mold) in Mansfield after 30 years retiring in 1991 as a shift foreman. An avid bowler, Cletus enjoyed spending summers at his cottage in Bethesda, Ohio.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by one grandson, Tommy (Marci) Wheeler of Galion; three great-grandchildren, Dylan T. Wheeler, Briana R. Wheeler and Melanie D. Wheeler; a daughter-in-law, Jean A. Wheeler of Galion and a brother-in-law, Richard Brumbaugh of Canton.

He was preceded in death by one son, Thom E. Wheeler and four brothers and one sister.

A memorial service and "Celebration of Life" will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday January 7, 2012 at Galion Elk's Lodge Banquet Room, 212 Harding Way East in Galion with Rev. Steven Voelker officiating. His family will receive friends immediately following, during a luncheon held in memory of Cletus at the Elk's Lodge.

Arrangements are in the care of Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion.
