Jerry D. Hemperly

MANSFIELD: Jerry D. Hemperly, 75, of Mansfield, died Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Hospice of North Central Ohio. Born January 29, 1940 in Mansfield, he was the son of Theodore Charles and Viola "Marie" (Finney) Hemperly.

A lifelong Mansfield resident, he attended Mansfield Senior High and retired from General Motors after 34 years of service as a journeyman electrician. He attended Ontario Free Methodist Church. Jerry was a member of Shiloh Lodge 544 for 40 years as a Master Mason and was a 32nd Degree of the Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite for 24 years. He was an avid gun and knife collector, enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports. He loved spending time with his friends and family and with his dog, Rocky. Jerry never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone he met as he could strike up a conversation with anyone.

He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 52 years, Kay (Willet) Hemperly; two children, Tim (Amy Margheim) Hemperly of Sandusky and Gail Meyers of Columbus; four grandchildren, Marie (Rob) Fouts of Mansfield, Ashley Meyers of Columbus, Isiah Margheim and Logan Hemperly both of Sandusky; and several extended family members whom he thought of as his own children grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Richard Hemperly, Dean (Charlene) Hemperly and Margie Jacobs; a nephew, Ron Hemperly; a niece, Linda Gundrum; and a great niece, Shelly Hemperly.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2015 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield where Masonic services will be held at 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Terry Viscioni.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland County Dog Shelter, 1710 Garfield Avenue, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
