Barbara J. Miley

GALION: Barbara J. Miley, 83 of Galion passed away Sunday evening at Millcreek Nursing in Galion.

She was born July 1, 1932 in Mt. Gilead and was the daughter of Edwin Swartz and Marjorie (Shambaugh) Swartz-Warner.

Barb is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gerald L. Miley who she married on September 7, 1950.

In addition to her husband she is survived by children Cheryl Lynn (Jeffrey) Ruhl of Delaware, Gary Lee Miley, Craig Alan (Marilyn) Miley and Cory Scott (Amy) Miley all of Galion; 7 grandchildren Natalie, Lindsay, Travis, Trent, Nicole, Ashley and Katelyn; 7 great-grandchildren Madeline, Weston, Taylor, Saje, Tanner, Tessa and Brayden; sister and brother-in-law Sandra Jane (Don) McClarren of Nashua, New Hampshire; step-sisters Linda (John) Leiterman of Illinois and Ellie (Jim) Heiser of Galion and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two step-brothers Richard (Florence) Warner and Dean Warner.

Barbara was a 1950 graduate of Iberia High School and worked as an executive secretary at the former North Electric, ITT and Centel. She had a strong desire to volunteer to help the Iberia High School Alumni Association where she held many positions, the Iberia Tots and Toddlers, OCCL Mothers Club since 1956 holding offices of president, vice-president, secretary, historian, corresponding secretary, Ways and Means, Scholarship committees and OCCL state corresponding secretary for two years. Barb was currently the fiscal officer for North Bloomfield Township and held that position for the past 24 years. She was a life member of Peace United Church of Christ where she had served as treasurer for many years and helped with the dining hall at the Morrow County Fair for 63 years. Barb enjoyed helping her son and daughter-in-law by being their auction clerk for Miley Realty. She was a member of the Republican Central Committee in Morrow County. She was an avid collector of Cats Meows and Vera Bradley. But most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 30 with Larry Cawley officiating. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Iberia Tots and Toddlers Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
