James A. Speelman

MANSFIELD: James A. Speelman, 74 of Mansfield passed away April 10, 2017 at Oak Grove Manor.

Jim was born July 15, 1942 in Mansfield to Glenn and Catherine Breen Speelman. He was a 1960 graduate of St. Peter's High School and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Jim delivered for Pepsi for almost 20 years before becoming owner and operator of Jim's Sweet Shop and Roger's Signs. He enjoyed camping, motorcycle riding, Sprint Car racing, but truly loved attending his grandkids sporting and school events. Jim volunteered for the St. Peter's Booster Club, RSVP and the Renaissance.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years Geraldine "Gerry" Speelman; children Christopher G. (Wendy), Leann M. (Christopher) Adams, James P. (Melissa), and Jason A. (Laura); grandchildren Jacob, Grace, Joshua, Gavin, Zane, Carson, Alex, Ezechiel, Alexandria, Bryce, Cortney, Garrett, Cameron, Gabrielle, Corbin, Abigail; brothers Thomas (Laura), Timothy (Pat); in-laws Frances (Ralph) Wilson, Gerald (Vicki) Schaefer; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by in-laws Gerald Schaefer, Mary Jane Farley, Ernest Farley; sister-in-law Anna Mae Shelton.

Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Monday from 1-3 and 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Hite officiating. Burial will follow at Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spartan Athletic Boosters Steve Ohl Memorial Scholarship or the Msgr. Dunn Foundation - Paul Malaska Building Fund.

So sorry to hear of my godfathers passing. I can still hear him laugh when I pulled the goddaughter card to try and get a free ice cream cone out of him. It actually worked a few times! Heaven has certainly gained an angel. My Mom and Dad have welcomed him with open arms. God speed Jim.
