Stephen Odetto Obituary

Stephen Peter Odetto July 23, 1954 – June 13, 2009 Stephen passed away at home after a long, courageous fight with cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Karen, his mother, Dorothy, brothers, John, Matt, Joe, and Tom and sisters, Anne and Betsy. He was predeceased by his father, Hugo, his sisters, Babe and Ginny and brother Jim. Stephen was a police officer for 29 years, servng the citizens of the Twin Cities Police Dept. where an extended family was formed by forging strong friendships within the agency and community. Upon retirement, he joined his "second family" at Gloria Ferrer Winery where he shared his joy of life, positive attitude and spirit with all. Although Stephen was a native to Marin County, his home was in the sky. He had a connection to flying that was beyond just a hobby or even obsession. He was most at peace in his airplane. He was a brilliant mechanic and the hours he spent tending to his plane, as well as his visits with his airplane buddies, kept him happy during his health struggles. Known as a kind and respectful man with an incredible strength of character, he had a witty, intoxicating sense of humor and engaging personality. We are blessed to have had him in our lives. The family would like to thank the staff at UCSF Oncology for the years of care and support. A memorial service will be held at Gloria Ferrer Winery in Sonoma on July 12, at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Ave., 5th Flr, Norwalk, CT 06851 or Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran Street, Petaluma, CA 94952, Attn: In Memory of Stephen Odetto.

Karen and family,

Steve was friend and co-worker. It was a pleasure working with him. When things got tense, Steve would always throw in a little humor to calm the situation.

Dear Karen and the Odetto family;

I knew Steve briefly having worked with him at Gloria Ferrer. It was the easiest interview ever and I wanted to hire him after the first 5 minutes. His spirit, drive, dedication, and consistent/upbeat demeanor were inspiring and a great joy to be around. He left a positive and lasting impression on customers and his co-workers alike. He will not be forgotten.

Dear Karen and Odetto family:

Nancy and I will miss the spot light in our window on a lazy evening when Steve was on duty making sure we were safe. As for intoxicating Steve was just that and will be in our memories FOREVER having introduced us to one another on a lazy day 16 years ago. Steve reminded me often that when folks and friends sighted us together thinking we were brothers that as for looks he was the filet mignon and I was just ground chuck. Steve was in fact the " filet mignon" and a man that we were proud to have in our life.

Dear Karen, Dorothy, Matt and loved ones of Steve,
My sincerest condolences to you for the passing of your beloved Steve. What a wonderful, beautiful soul whose memory will be with me always. Meeting him literally sent me on my career path and if not for him, I would probably not be in Law Enforcement today. He was charming, charismatic and always smiling. Even though I had not seen him in a long while, I will miss him deeply. I know he is in the heavens now watching over us all.

Karen- Our hearts are filled with sadness at the loss of your husband, Steve. We cannot imagine the pain you feel right now. What a wonderful man he seemed to have been! The loving support you gave him, over the past 8-1/2 years, was an unselfish expression of the love you felt for him. He most surely drew much of his strength, courage and also his joy of living, from having you, his wife, by his side. His journey became your journey. Sadly, it was much too short. Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal. May your memories of your time together provide you with a sense of peace. Love, Kathy & Ray
