Barbara Wraga Obituary

Barbara "June" Wraga Passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 30, 2015 at the age of 84. June was born in Bellefonte, PA on June 8, 1930. She graduated from Bellefonte High School and went on to Penn State University, where she was a sportswriter for the school newspaper as well as a passionate fan of Nittany Lion football. After college June would travel the world and worked for a period of time for the U.S. Government in Turkey. She later settled in San Francisco where she worked for the CYO. It was there she met Walter "Joe" Wraga through Old St. Mary's Catholic young adult organization; they married in 1960. June was a devoted wife, mother and caregiver, in addition to working part time as administrator for "Other Cultures" helping place students in Mexico as well as Central America. She is survived by her 3 children: Joan Merryman, Beth Wong and Joe Wraga all happily married in the Bay Area. The joys of her life were her 7 grandchildren: Casey, Nick, Alexa, Mia, Carter, Luke, and William. June is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Her interests spanned from the arts to sports. She would often attend games at Candlestick Park to root on the Giants and Niners, as well as supporting the SF Ballet and Symphony. June's love of travel carried into her later years, where she made multiple international trips through Elder Hostel as well as trips to Europe, Central America and Mexico with family and friends. When it came to California one of her favorite destinations was Palm Springs. She loved to relax in the warm desert surroundings. She was also an avid hiker exploring trails throughout the Bay Area. One of June's later accomplishments was achieving Bronze life master status in Bridge, one of her favorite pastimes. She will be greatly missed by all those that she touched; her selfless, caring nature will never be forgotten. Memorial gifts may be made to the Altzheimer's Assoc., 2290 North First St. #101, San Jose, CA 95131, or online www.alz.org, refer to tribute page Barbara June Wraga. A Private Catholic Service will be held.
