EVELYN MCELROY Obituary
Evelyn McElroy Passed away peacefully Monday evening, November 1, at her home in Belvedere from the effects of pancreatic cancer. She was 86. A service will be held on November 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 240 Tiburon Boulevard in Tiburon. Mrs. McElroy was born in Walton, Kentucky, the daughter of Robert and Blanche Coffman. In Walton, where she grew up, she met her future husband, Stanley McElroy, at the age of 4. Stanley and Evelyn were married in March of 1945 and experienced a wonderful, loving marriage of 64 years until Stanley passed away in May of 2009. Evelyn graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1944 and shortly thereafter embarked on a 25 year career as an elementary school teacher. The family moved from the east coast to Belvedere in 1973 for her husband's long standing career with IBM. While living in Belvedere, Evelyn enjoyed an active fulfilling life. She brought the most positive spirit to every endeavor she undertook. She was a docent at the San Francisco Zoo, a successful residential real estate broker, an avid reader and was a needlepoint aficionado. She loved playing the piano, attending the symphony and tending to her herb garden. Evelyn was involved in her community volunteering as a probation officer and feeding the homeless. She was most active in the Westminster Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and was a deacon at the church. She will be greatly missed as the best wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Evelyn is survived by her four children, Deborah Castles of Berkeley, Susan Dunn of Saratoga, Stanley McElroy, Jr. of Manhattan Beach and Mary Alice Callahan of Acton, MA, and 12 beautiful grandchildren.
