Mike was a reasonable voice amid the some of the insanity within the Postal Service. Very grateful for his friendship.

I knew Mike for about 11 years, through my husband Doug. I found Mike to be a great source of knowledge and inspiration in Union matters over the years. I loved his home 'decor', and his sense of fun and humor. His brave battle over the last four years was truly amazing. He is a testament to the power of one's will to live!
He also had a huge heart of gold. I will never forget when we moved to our new home 7 years ago, and Mike organized a moving party. After all of the large items were moved in, we thanked everyone and expected that we'd all sit down and enjoy the drinks and food.
Mike would not have it! He insisted that they move the rest of our stuff (it was alot, after 18 years). Mike and all of these friends moved EVERY single box for us, and when they got to my huge whiskey barrels (full of soil and plants), Mike insisted that they be moved also. I can still hear Mike teasing and grumbling about "those *!?& barrels"!
Mike, you were a special guy and dearly loved!

I had the great pleasure of meeting and getting to know Mikee while working at the credit union. He was always a very generous guy. If I was ever having a bad day he would always cheer me up, whether it be a joke or giving of his advice. When he would walk into the credit union the general mood of the credit union would change and it would always be a lot more fun. He will always have a special place in my heart.

I had the great pleasure of meeting and getting to know Mikee while working at the credit union. He was always a very generous individual. It was always fun when he walked into the credit union. If I was ever having a bad day he would always cheer me up, he knew exactly what to say to make me feel better, whether it was a joke or his giving of advice. He will always have a special place in my heart.

I met Mike when I joined the PO over 26 years ago. I quickly learned of Mike's ability to pursue 'justice' shortly after my 90 day probation. I was wrongfully accused of an accident at work and I became the fall guy, being a new employee. To say Mike pursued justice is an understatement. Mike and Steve Taylor prevailed on my behalf.
This was the start of my friendship with Mike, and I was also going through a divorce. Mike always asked how it was going, was always willing to share his stories and words of encouragement. Come to think of it, Mike would have made one heck of a career as a Counselor too.
I'll never forget all the good times we had hunting together over the years. One 'Mikeism' that comes to mind is: Every time he asked about one of my big game hunting trips living out of a tent for a week, I'd explain how much excitement it was. When I asked if he'd like to come along next time, he'd just smile and say 'No thanks Doug, my idea of roughing it is a Motel 6 with a black and white TV.
Mike was 'rich' in friendship; his outgoing nature endeared him to most everyone he met. He felt like a brother to me, as so to many others I'm sure.
Mike fulfilled God's plan for him by toughing so many lives during his life. He's been called home and I know he's in a better place, and I too look forward to seeing him again. Take care Highway Star...til we meet again

I only had the priviledge of knowing Mike since 2007, upon becoming office manager of the GSAL-APWU. He was a very special individual, and I will truly miss his quick smile, witty sense of humor, and sharing stories about great places to check-out in the Port Townsend, Cape George and Tri-Areas, where both our families enjoy spending our free time.
Men should aspire to be like you, Mikee. The world would sure be a better place to live.
Sincerely,
Jan Shannon & family (Mike, Robbie Dog and Chloe)

Did we all get to tell Mike how much we loved him? If you didn't I did it for you. He is missed from all of the MVS family.

Mike was one of the most amazing people I have ever had the privilege of knowing.
Even when he was suffering the horrible effects of the experimental cancer drugs, the sores and blisters, etc. He never complained much.
One day when we were talking he said he had been at the cancer center going through an infusion and wondering why he was doing this when he knew his cancer was terminal...then he heard a little girl in the next room crying, she was going through the same thing. Mike said, "I realized, I really have nothing to complain about. I dont have it so bad."
What a strong individual.
Mike was loved by many and will be missed by even more.

Mike was much loved in the infusion room at SCCA.
When he would arrive there was the call out of "Mike's here"...he was so interested in everybody...it was never about him but about us. It was amazing how he knew everybody's name and wanted to know what was going on with them.
Oh, and always good talk about politics...it was never boring with Mike around.
He will be missed by many...love you, Mike.

There was only one "highway star''. You were loved by so many Micheal and will be missed by even more. I will remember the years we worked together as some of the best times ever. A more true unionist would be hard to find.

I remember his smile and he was always in a good mood when things were down. I've loaded and unloaded many of his trucks. He will be missed, especially as a member of the Postal family.

May the Peace of the Lord be with you my friend!
I had the honor to meet Mike a few years back in the Postal Service when the Tacoma drivers came to Seattle. One heck of a Great guy, in time came to know him as a Friend.
My sincerest sympathy & condolences to his Family, relatives, and his many close friends.
You'll will be deeply missed my brother, but will no longer be riddled with pain and suffering of that horrid disease, and may our Dear Lord will watch over now....

I meet Mike at the Postal Service several years ago. We had become friends and enjoyed joking around and shared the knowledge of Rock and Roll music. He always had a warm smile and he will be missed by all. Rest in Peace
