Phyllis Marcus

Phyllis Marcus Passed away on December 22, 2013 at age 87. A native-born San Franciscan and graduate of George Washington High, she lived in Marin County for over 60 years. Her last eight years were spent at Heritage Pointe in Mission Viejo, CA near her eldest son. Phyllis is survived by her three sons and their spouses: Dr. Bruce and Carol Marcus, Bradley (Avinoam) and Dina Marcus, and Robert (Uriel) and Adi Marcus; and many grandchildren and great-grand children. Phyllis was very close to her three sisters and their families: the Rosenbergs, the Remaks, and the Oppenheimers. Adele Oppenheimer is her last living sibling. Phyllis' life had its hardships and triumphs. She developed a brain illness, hydrocephalus, that began in her 30's, progressed undetected, and eventually left her unable to walk or talk. At age 52, her hydrocephalus was correctly diagnosed and surgically resolved. After months of rehabilitation, the basic skills she had lost were restored. She emerged a new woman, filled with gratitude and hope for a new life which she rebuilt one day at a time. She became an entertainer and created Filly Folly the Clown and glamorous Flame Folly. She appeared on TV, in movies, and on stage. She was featured on Hour Magazine and sang a parody she wrote of "Thanks for the Memory" to Bob Hope for his 80th birthday. Phyllis donated countless hours entertaining seniors throughout the Bay Area, receiving many awards from Bread and Roses, as well as presidential recognition for her volunteer work.
