My friendship with Michael spanned over 65 years. We were both, along with two siblings, left Fatherless at an early age with little financial resouces. Fortunately, we were both blessed with wise and hardworking Mothers who instilled in us a rejection of self-pity, a strong work ethic, a sense of laughter, and the will to strive for success in whatever endeavor we chose to pursue. Despite our early years of poverty and humbled living conditions the Kelly's home was always open to those less fortunate. Like a Mother Hen, his mother readily adopted any and all who needed her wisdom and guidance. Like Michael, much of my success in life I attribute to having known Mrs. Kelly. Michael and I spent the bulk of our youth as comrades in arms until our migrations in pursit of life's treasures and fortunes led us to take different paths. Still, on every occasion, irrespective of the lapse in time, when our paths would again cross he would greet me as if it was only yesterday that we had last shared time together. Despite our dissimilar physical appreance I viewed Michael as my Brother and an intergral part of my family. As professions, locations, and time dictated, Michael and I were unable to maintain contact with each other over the last two decades. Still, the memories of his candor, exuberance, and laughter over this time helped to keep me on an even keel. I'm a better man because of my association with Michael. I regret that I never took the time, or had the chance, to tell him this. I can only hope that when my time with life is over, that we will meet again in whatever place such mortals as we go, that I'll then have the chance to do so. No doubt, he'll again share a hearty laugh with me over such a comment. I, for one, we'll look forward to it.

I miss talking to Michael as we would frequently meet along SW Champlain Drive in the mornings to begin our daily walks.
