WILLIAM MCANDREW Obituary

William Peter McAndrew May 25, 1926~Sept. 8, 2010 Died on September 8, 2010, at the age of 84. Born to Alexander and Frances McAndrew on May 25, 1926, he was raised in Ross CA and graduated from Tamalpais High School. He served in WWII in the Pacific Theater with the 77th Infantry Division of the US Army including action on Okinawa and the Philippines and with the occupation troops in Japan, earning several awards including the Army Presidential Unit Citation, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon/77th Division, and the Purple Heart. He graduated from Yale University in 1950, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon and the Elihu Club, and in 1952, married Eleanor Pischel of Ross. His professional career included Pacific Coast Industries, and Wells Fargo Bank as SVP in charge of its operations in the Far East. Upon retirement he obtained a degree in antique clock restoration from West Dean College, Chichester, England, and practiced this trade for many years. Eleanor Pischel died in 1997. In 2000 he married Sarah Blair of San Francisco and moved from Sonoma to Marin County. Board service included the Cate School in Carpenteria, California, St. Luke's Hospital in San Francisco, and Sonoma County District Hospital. Club memberships include the Lagunitas Club and the Inverness Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife Sarah, sister Catherine Shaw and her spouse Arthur, sons Alexander McAndrew and his spouse Carola, Peter McAndrew and his spouse Anne, four grandchildren, Rebecca McAndrew, Alexander McAndrew Kathryn McAndrew and William Peter McAndrew, two stepdaughters Lucia Webster and her spouse David and Sarah Hancock and her spouse Kyle, three step-grandchildren Charles and Owen Hancock, Jessie Webster and many nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration will be held at St. John's Church, Ross on Friday, October 1st at 4:00 PM. Burial services will be private. In honor of Peter McAndrew and in gratitude to Dr. Charles Morris, charitable contributions may be made to Project Cure, 10877 E. Geddes Avenue, Centennial, CO 80112 (www.ProjectCure.org) or a charity of your choice.

I have very fond memories of Peter and his group of friends who met for lunch at Wild Oak Saddle Club three or four times a year while I was Manager there. He was the group's organizer and main contact for me. I found him to be a very nice person, someone I will remember for a very long time.

Peter's contribution to the Board of Directors of The Sonoma Valley Hospital where he served and chaired the Finance Committee will always be appreciated by those of us who knew him and were his friends.
