Phillip M. Chechile, 62, of Springfield died Thursday, March 6, 2014 surrounded by his family in Baystate Medical Center. Phillip, a son of Mildred (Potito) Chechile and the late Conrad Chechile was born in Springfield on November 7, 1951. Raised in Springfield he graduated from Springfield Technical High School. He worked for fifteen years as a coil winder for Governor's America Corp in Agawam. Phillip was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a member of the Circle. He was an avid Jeopardy Trivia buff and sports fan especially of the Oakland Raiders. Phillip played touch football in the Springfield league, coached and played softball, loved sports cars and sometimes was published by Turley Publications as an amateur writer. He served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Marines and attained the rank of Corporal. In addition to his father, Phillip was predeceased by a son, Daniel Chechile, and his sister Jean Mahoney. He is survived by his children, Phillip M. Chechile, Jr., Elise N. Chechile and Stephanie R. Chechile all of Baldwinville, MA; two brothers, Peter A. Chechile and his wife Pamela and Paul J. Chechile and his wife Gloria both of Springfield; two sisters, Lois M. Mont and her husband George of Springfield and Patricia "P.K." Chechile of Chicopee; and three nephews, Michael, Nicholas, and Anthony. He also leaves his former wife, Brenda. Visiting hours for Phillip will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Family and friends are asked to meet for graveside services with Military Honors on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at I pm in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery 1390, Main Street, Agawam. Memorial contributions in Phillip's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Peter and family,I am so sorry to hear that Phil has left us. I'm glad I was able to spend some with him in the fall. He was upbeat, looking forward to doing so much more.There are so many memories and adventures from the Circle days, to softball, to him relocating with his family out here to Long Beach in the 80's that I will hold close.This must be so tough Peter, because you and Phil had such a strong bond. You are in my thoughts and prayers my friend.

Saddened to hear about Phil....one only had to be at a playing field or after a game hanging to know when anybody said "the philster"...you knew who they were talking about or whose attention they were trying to get...they broke the mold...may you have lastig peace and one more tear drop strike across the plate
