Douglas Roth Obituary
Douglas C. Roth died March 25, 2013 ,after a valiant battle with a year-long illness. The son of Gerald I. and Selma B. Roth, Douglas was born April 20, 1962, in Allentown. Douglas was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 600. Douglas (aka D. Smash) was a master guitar player and founding member of the legendary Lehigh Valley band, The Blissters. Survivors: Douglas is survived by his mother, Selma; brothers and sisters, Judd Roth and Ruth Cooper, Kyle Roth and Lisa Gaffney, Adam and Penny Roth, Melissa Roth; nieces and nephews, Capri, Jade, Alex, Nikki, Veronica, and Leah. Services: 1 p.m., Thursday, March 29, 2013, at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th and Hamilton Sts., Allentown, PA. Interment to follow at Beth El Memorial Park, Whitehall, PA. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Gerald Roth Memorial Fund c/o The Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley, 702 N. 22nd Street, Allentown, PA 18104.

My sympathies to the Roth family. I knew Doug and Adam briefly in the mid seventies as we played the music of the day in his basement and garage. He had a spark and I'll always remember him.

I will always remember Doug as a tremendous guitarist and all-around nice guy--I jammed with Dougie on several occasions and played my last public appearance with Doug and The Blissters--I used to sing with Jester-in the same era--Rock On Doug--We will all miss you !!!!

Dearest Dougie, we giggled together in elementary school, you walked me home from junior high and stayed by my side when I got in trouble at home-yikes! and drove me all the way back to nyc when i left my clothes in my dorm room--only you and i will ever know the humor of that car drive back on the "under construction" 78! you played for me, you made me smile, you made me feel good about myself, and you had the sweetest turn of your head with your dougie grin that could melt hearts. i love you.

Very sorry to hear about Dougie. I was lucky enough to play drums in the band Family Of Strangers with Dougie back in the '80's. He was an incredible guitar player and was a huge influence on my drumming. I joined that band as a novice and left it as a professional. Very sad. We had a lot of fun together. RIP. My condolences to the Roth family.

To the Roth Family,
My family and I are saddened by the lost of Doug. I have memories that go back to days of what I believe was Doug's first band, Doug, Adam, Scott and myself(we could have been called the The Traveling Jewberries). Doug was only 12 or so and he blew us away with his commitment & passion to that guitar. Those memories and others with him are some of my favorites which I have and will continue to cherish. While his loss is tragic, I hope knowing that so many people will have these great memories of him will bring you some joy and peace at this time.

I'm thinking about the saying "the candle that burns twice as bright burns only half as long"...For as many times as I have said "Man, I miss Dougie" in the last fifteen years, it takes on an eternal meaning now. I was lucky enough to know Doug over the years and he always encouraged me with my guitar playing. I looked up to him so much as a player. Seeing the Blissters live was like seeing The WHO play in their heyday. You couldn't take your eyes off him. His talent and his warmth as a person will be greatly missed. Rest in peace
