James McCambridge Obituary

James E. McCambridge
James E. McCambridge, 87, of Lancaster and formerly of Allentown, PA passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster County. He was born in Drexel Hill and was the son of the late James E. McCambridge and Catherine (Larkin). Jim was the owner of the former Stewart Sandwiches Inc. in Allentown. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he was the captain of the sailing team. He received a Purple Heart while serving in the US Navy in WWII. Jim was not only a sailor but also an avid golf and tennis player. He was a former member of the Cathedral Parish in Allentown and a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Lancaster, PA. Jim was Past Chairman of Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Allentown, Past President of the Board of Allentown Sacred Heart Hospital and Past President of Lehigh Country Club. Survivors: Two daughters, Ann Altimare, wife of Dr. Peter, of Lancaster, Nicole Hodge, wife of Mark, of Santa Ana, CA; four sons, James E. McCambridge III, husband of Anne, of Madison, WI, Robert M. McCambridge, husband of Nancy, of Gathersburg, MD, Sean J. McCambridge, of Chicago, Larry Nuesslein, husband of Heather, of Bar Harbor, ME; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by two sisters Catherine Hassett and Barbara Wagner. Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pk., Lancaster, PA 17602 at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Mark E. Weiss as Celebrant. A visitation with the family will be on Saturday at the church at 10 a.m. Final farewell and commendation in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604. Arrangements by Charles F.
