I have just returned to stamp collecting after a ten-year hiatus, and as a first order of business I attempted to re-connect with Bill Weiss. I was shocked to learn that he had died.

Bill was an enormous help to me in the late 1970s when an unscrupulous dealer defrauded me of almost a thousand dollars (a large sum then, especially for a guy in his 20's). Bill intervened and helped me recover most of my loss, and he never asked for anything in return, not even my business.

And, over the years, Bill was always willing to write handwritten letters about any stamp subject, whether or not you were doing business with him. He loved stamps first, and earned a living from stamps second.

I think Bill was one heckuva guy, and the stamp collecting community has suffered a grievous loss.

You were the best, Bill. Godspeed.

Bill Weiss was my mentor in collecting stamps. He taught me so much and often prevented me from making stupid mistakes. My collection would not have the stature it has without his wise advice. THANKS BILL! I miss ya' Ralph Jacobson ([email protected])

Bill was my mentor in learning how to be a WISE collector. His advice always lead to fine results. I could always call and get his open opinion on what to do. THANKS, Bill. I miss ya' Ralph Jacobson (rjacobso)

Bill Weiss was a great man in all respects. He was very serious and honest in his work. He taught me a lot regarding US stamps until the last few months of his life. My passion for stamp collection is now not how it was with his demise. I will miss you my honest friend..

I am so sorry for your loss. Mr Weiss was someone I had gotten to know while working at the APS. He was a wonderful person and a great asset to the hobby he loved so much.
