Charles Noonan Obituary

Charles T. Noonan, 91, died February 27, 2016, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Born in Ashland, Kentucky, he was a son of Arthur and Tina (Beam) Noonan. After attending public schools in Ashland, he studied at Harvard College (where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa) and Harvard Law School. In 1949, he came to Allentown to practice law; he would tell you that life and law are synonymous. His private practice was with some of his children, a grandchild and Michael Prokup as Noonan & Prokup (originally Donecker & Noonan). He was a Director of the former Merchants National Bank of Allentown and served numerous charitable organizations in Lehigh County, including the Junior Chamber of Commerce (receiving its Distinguished Service Award), the East Penn School District (as a member of the board for six years, being Treasurer for one of those years and President for another), and Cedar Crest College (as an associate, Trustee, then Chairman; 2004 Associates Award winner with his wife, Constance). In addition to a lifetime love of education and the arts, he enjoyed skiing, tennis, water skiing, music and reading. Survivors: Constance (his wife of 70 years); children Thomas (and wife Linda), Susan, Karl, Jim and Todd (and wife Louisa Esser); 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and his brother Roger (and wife Jenny Lou) Services: Private. Arrangements by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown. www.jsburkholder.com Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Cedar Crest College, 100 College Drive, Allentown, PA 18104.

The most special person I will ever have had the pleasure of meeting in my life. Charlie made the most astounding difference in my simple life. He encouraged me to be all that I could be and always made me feel worthy as a human being. He is sorely missed.

My family and I were incredibly fortunate to meet C.T., work with him on a meaningful art project, and become friends. He touched our lives in many ways and will always be in our thoughts. His humor, wisdom, love of life, and insight will be greatly missed.

Condolences to the Noonan Family. Charlie was the perfect example to so many in his many capacities, including lawyer and family man. I am sorry to hear of his passing but happy to hear that he lived a long and happy life. I used to work for Herb Levy as a paralegal, across Walnut Street from Charlie's office. Herb idolized Charlie, and in dealing with Charlie myself, I learned why.

Charlie was one of the finest people I ever met and was a mentor to me. I enjoyed playing tennis with him many years ago early in the morning. He was good to so many folks.
