ALBERTO DIAZ Obituary

August 3, 1999 ~ November 17, 2010

Alberto Diaz Jr, known by his family as "papas" passed away this week on Wednesday November, 17th 2010 after a 6 year battle with ewing's sarcoma (a bone cancer). He was 11 years old. He was the first born son of Athena and Alberto Diaz on August 3rd 1999 in Merced, California. This beautiful child fought his cancer with the strength and bravery of a dozen soldiers. His strength and will to live was an inspiration to all that knew him.

Papas' favorite things to do were play video games and baseball. His favorite baseball team was the Dodgers, his parents took him to many games and showered him with boundless love and support during his short stay on this earth. Papas is a hero to many including his parents, brothers, sisters, family and friends. He was his mother's sunshine and her heart. His mother changed the calendar by celebrating his final Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas early to make sure her son that she was blessed with got to enjoy his last holidays with his family that he adored. Every moment with his family meant more to him than anything else. Papas loved to feel free on the beach and watch the ocean where he could forget about his cancer and be a normal boy. He was excited to meet his unborn brother, due February, 2011, who he now gets to meet in heaven before his mother. His mother only wish was to hold him in her arms while he took his last breath just as she did when he took his first breath and he loved his mother so much he granted that wish.

His smile was like a thousand rays of sunshine shown down from heaven and his laugh brought joy when there was sadness. Papas will never be forgotten.

Papas is survived by his parents, Athena and Alberto Diaz, his brothers, Gabriel and Matthew, his sisters, Arabella, Ariel and Gisele as well as his grandparents, uncles, aunts and many cousins.

His viewing will be held at the Wilson Family Funeral Chapel, 1290 Winton Way, Atwater on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the Recitation of the Holy Blessed Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church. The burial will follow at Winton Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Wilson Family Funeral Chapel of Atwater.

Athena & Alberto and Family....I cannot begin to express how much I feel for your loss...I cannot fully understand how you must be feeling... but I certainly can attest for the love you had for Alberto Jr. and the dedications you had to seeing he had "the best" My prayers are with you, and they always had been, as I watched you struggle to keep family, school, and Ariel's pre-school life held togehter in one piece. I admire your strength and compassion, and I really do feel your loss. Please remember to stay positive, and hold on to your faith that your precious jewel in in good hands. Thoughts of you. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I did not know the Diaz family, but my thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Roberto fought as long as he could and God told him no more. God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so put his arms around and whispered come with me and Roberto did.
