GRANT PIGG Obituary

Grant William Pigg began his earthly journey on April 4, 1935 in Gurdon, Arkansas to the parentage of Junious and Adell Pigg. Grant was the third child born into this union. He was known to his family and friends as G.W. G.W.'s journey continued to the Bay Area before settling in Dos Palos, Ca in the late 1930's. It was in Dos Palos where he received his education. G.W. joined the Air Force on November 5, 1954. That same year, his first child, Doris Marie Pigg was born. G.W. married Rena Crosby in 1957. No children were born to this brief union. In 1961 his first and only son, William G. Pigg, was born.
Continuing his earthly journey G.W. married his love and son's mother Lillie Carraway on April 2, 1971.
G.W.'s journey continued with him working alongside his father who was a contractor. G.W. was also a truck driver for many years and his goal was to be "Boss Hogg" of his own business. He started recycling scrap metal in the early 1970's and as time passed the business of recycling became a successful company. He named his company "Grant Enterprise" with "Grant" being a common name that was shared between him, his son, and his grandsons. G.W. continued to be a working partner in the company until his health failed. G.W. was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2006 it was then that he retired as founder of Grant Enterprise. G.W.'s earthly journey ended on October 26, 2010 in the 10th hour at which time he was surrounded by the love of his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents Junious Pigg and Adell Pigg Swafford, a brother Hollis Pigg, a sister Mayome Everon, his wife Lillie Pigg, a son Michael Carraway, a daughter Darlene Modique, and a grandson Shadon Pigg.G.W. leaves to cherish his memories his children; Doris Marie Pigg of Stockton, CA, William G. (Martha) Pigg of Los Banos, CA, Celeste Pigg of Arkansas, Ricky Washington of Los Banos, CA., Frankie Carraway, Gloria Carraway, Ana Lee Davis, Minthie Davis and Michelle (Chris) Hawkins all of Merced, CA., 11 grand children and 16 great grand children. Four sisters, Pearlene Reese of Modesto, CA, Ruth (Fulton) Brinkley of Hayward, CA, Cannievee Brandon of Mainville, Ohio and Narval (James) Baily-Hecathorn of Las Vegas, NV. Three brothers, Curlee Pigg of Dos Palos, CA, Jonathan (Alice) Pigg of Los Banos, CA and Jerry Howell of Tacoma, WA. G.W. also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 at 11am at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel of Dos Palos. Burial will follow at Dos Palos Cemetery District. Services entrusted to Whitehurst Funeral Chapel of Dos Palos.
