LILLIAN STARING Obituary

June 2, 1919 - December 3, 2010

Born to Jonathan and Tracy Schmidt in Lodi, California on June 2, 1919, Lillian was the second of their two children. She was raised and schooled in our valley and graduated from Denair High School, the same year her mother passed away. Lillian passed into the Lord's keeping on December 3, 2010, while at Anberry Rehabilitation facility.

After attending business college in Stockton, CA, her career ranged from usherette at the "old" Merced Theater to office staff employee at Castle Air Force Base during WW II and office employee at the Merced Irrigation District from which position she retired after many years of employment. While in Merced, she met and married Elmer Staring during WWII. Their daughter Cheryl was born after the war's end, and they continued to reside in Merced. Lillian enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her home and yard, and cuddling with her "granddoggies."

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her beloved brother, Reuben Schmidt. Her survivors include her sister-in-law Mirella Schmidt of Merced; two half sisters, Joan Seabury of Nevada City and Sharon Neto of Hughson; her step-daughter, Marianne Gillies of Aptos; her daughter, Cheryl (Keith) St. Clair of Merced; three grandchildren, Carla (Larry) Lovelin of Gresham, OR, Lyn Cater of Merced, and Tom Reta of Los Angeles. Her survivors also include three great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. It should not got without mention that in her final years of life she cherished Mopps and Dancer, her canine caregivers. The family extends thanks to Judy Richards and Carolyn and Melissa Stephens for their special brad of caring, appreciation to friends Kathy and Gail, Jag Reddy, M.D., Mario K. Sablan, D.O, Mercy Medical Center, Anberry Rehabilitation, and Bristol Hospice. She has returned to her heavenly home but will always be loved and missed.

A Celebration of Lillian's life will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

In lieu of floral arrangements, please send a contribution in Lillian's memory to Children's Hospital Central California, 9300 Valley Children's Place, Madera, CA 93636, or Guide Dogs for the Blind, P.O. Box 3950, San Rafael, CA 94912-3950 or to a charity of your choosing.
