LOTA MOTHERWELL Obituary

June 13, 1926 ~ May 30, 2011

In loving memory of Lota Motherwell, born, Lota Mae King, of Roby, Texas June 13, 1926 and passed away in Merced, California on May 30, 2011.

Many will remember Lota for different reasons, since her life was very full and it took many turns. Lota first arrived in Merced at the age of 17 to join her parents in working at Castle Air Force Base during World War II. After the war, Lota took a position as a produce packer and canner. She eventually took a position as a car hop at Harvey's Drive In. The older residents will remember Harvey's Drive In for the Giant Neon Rabbit all could see for miles around. Lota was the spunky car hop with the long black pony tail and the quick humor. Lota was known in her later years for her political involvement fighting and petitioning for abused women's and children's rights. She walked from door to door petitioning into her 80's. Lota was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ on Yosemite Parkway, where she acted as a greeter for 30 years. She was also a Sunshine Lady for the church, for 20 years. She remembered all in their time of need.

Lota leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, John Motherwell. She will be deeply missed.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of Christ on Yosemite Parkway. All are welcome.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
