MADELINE PASSADORI-METZ Obituary

April 26, 1922 - November 3, 2010

Madeline Teresa Passadori-Metz, the youngest of the 11 original Passadori siblings of Atwater, CA, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2010 in her Merced home. Madeline had been battling Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and was 88 years old at the time of her death.

Madeline was born April 26, 1922 in Atwater, CA to Charles and Teresa Passadori. She was the youngest of 11 children; from eldest to youngest, her brothers and sisters included Beatrice, Louis, Lillian, Josephine, Charles, Rose, Bill, Roy Irene and Raymond.

Madeline grew up on the Passadori family dairy in Atwater, CA. She attended nursing school at Providence Hospital in Oakland, CA where she received her degree in registered nursing. Madeline entered the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant and served her country in the nursing corps for 4 years. After leaving the Army, Madeline returned to the Atwater-Merced area and went to work at Mercy Hospital in the operating room. She is probably better known for her nursing position the office of Dr. Udall in Merced where she created lasting memories for many due to her stern, military like way of administering those infamous injections. She met her husband, Alfred Metz while working at Mercy Hospital and, on October 18, 1954, they had twin sons, Dennis and David.Madeline and her husband Alfred had an old fashioned kind of love. They spent only a handful of nights apart and gave tremendous love and happiness to their family. Madeline loved gardening and was a wonderful cook. She made traditional Italian dishes and could bake like no one else; in fact, even her grilled cheese sandwiches could not be topped!

Madeline was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Passadori, and husband, Alfred Metz. She is survived by her sons, Dennis Metz of Merced, CA and David Metz of Visalia, CA, her grandchildren, Victoria Franetovich of Bakersfield, CA, Amanda Hage , Alanna Xayyaphay , Philip Metz, and Rebecca Metz of Merced, CA, and Dylan Maldonado of Atwater, CA. Madeline was blessed in recent years with three great grandsons, George Hage III, Dallas Metz, and David Franetovich.

Madeline was loved by all who knew her. She touched so many lives through her nursing career and gave everything to her family. She is an example of good old fashioned hard work and dedication to her country, her patients and her family. She will be greatly missed.

Graveside Services will be held as follows:Friday, November 5, 2010 at 11:00 am Evergreen Memorial Park,1480 B StreetMerced, CA 95340.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Madeline's name to Bristol Hospice.

Grandma, I love you and I am thankful for all that we shared and all of the memories I can someday share with my children. Life is actually death and death is life. So I am happy that you have finally been released into eternity and been set free from the misery of this life. I can just imagine you in Heaven singing and praising with the KING OF KINGS!! Being reunited with grandpa to live eternity in peace. Wow, I cannot wait to get there!! I love you!!

It's hard to say good-bye to someone that you love, although you know they are safe with JESUS up above. It doesn't make a difference if they are in their later years. It only means more memories to carry through the years. Don't let yourselves forget, we each have numbered days. For reasons that we do not know GOD wanted it this way. Tears wash away the pain, but it can't remove the love. The memories live forever safe in GOD'S hands above. So today we give thanks for the lives we chance to share. No matter if they are short or long GOD will always be there.

It is never too soon to accept CHRIST but at any moment it can be too late. GOD bless!!

Its sad to know she will no longer be with us but a sence of peace is present knowing she now resides in heaven. Madeline played so many roles and touched so many lives. I had the pleasure of knowing her as my bestfriends grandmother and a sweet lady to me. To know her was a blessing. May you rest in peace Madeline.

I will always miss you, but I am so thankful that you are at peace and reunited with grandpa. I was a lucky kid to have had a grandmother who was more like a mother and gave anything and everything to make us all smile, and I am a lucky woman to have had such an amazing example to live by. I hope you and grandpa are folk dancing in the heavens and i'll do all I can to make you proud. I love you so very much.

Until we meet again...
