Richard Ahlert Obituary

Richard Dick Ahlert

Resident of San Jose

Dick passed away on December 23 from pneumonia at age 88 to join his sons Kenneth, Christopher, and Richard in heaven. He suffered from Alzheimer's dementia for the past several years but managed to retain his sense of humor. He was born in Bronx, NY and upon the death of his mother, while still a baby; he was raised by his aunt and uncle Martha and George Harbush whom he called Ma and Daddy George.

He was employed at Philips Labs in Briarcliff Manor, NY for 26 years as a lab technician. In 1979 he joined IBM in San Jose where he worked in the Research Dept. as a lab technician for 16 years. Dick is a World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Force 1374th Signal Company Wing in US and Okinawa.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jenny, who was the love of his life, daughter-in-law Terry Ahlert, grandchildren Andy Szydlowski (Michelle), Brenda Merchant (Cliff), and Tracey Frohreich (Hans), great-grandson Malachai Sanders, sisters-in-law Anna Nyarady, Winnie Martone, brother-in-law Charles Rudolf and numerous nephews, nieces, and their families. We will miss his generosity and sense of humor.

Rosary Service will be held at Oak Hill Funeral Home 300 Curtner Avenue, San Jose, CA 95125 on Tuesday Dec. 28 from 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Wed., Dec. 29 at 10am at St. Francis of Assisi 5111 San Felipe Road, San Jose 95135 followed by burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.
