Elsie was one of the first people I met when I started working for the County of Santa Clara. I will always remember her fondly for her passion, hard work, style and mostly for her sense of humor. She had the best stories and could get us laughing till we cried. One element that stood out about Elsie was how important Ron, Sharon, and her grandchildren were to her. I know Elsie touched many lives and will be missed by many, including me.

Elsie was one of the best people I've had the pleasure of knowing. She was known for her wonderful smile and kind greetings to everyone in the neighborhood! Some of the best memories were in the evenings (after dinner) when everyone seem to gather in front of her house.

In the few short years I've known her, she was like a mother to me, yet such a dear friend. She was kind, though very honest...she didn't mince words. She always had an opinion and had no problem sharing it with me; especially when I would make some of my signature dishes for her and she would say things like: "Oh that's too spicy for me!", or "that's too much salt!"... or the one I really liked was "don't you have something sweet at your house?!!"

Some of you have heard this before but I'll never forget the time we were at a Christmas gathering at Susanne's house and it was time to leave; She nicely turned to me and said: "Tonya,...after you wash your hands...Could you please make me a plate to go?"
It was so funny because she knew I had been playing with the dogs at the and she wanted to make sure her plate had no puppy germs on it :-)

Last week during my visit with her, she wanted to know how my new relationship was going...I told her it was great and she said in a rather prying tone "really?!! Is it really going that great???"... as if she didn't believe me... so funny, too much!!!

I'm so sorry I couldn't be there for her service but (selfishly) I'm glad to have spent quality time with her in the last 4 of her 5 final days. Even in discomfort and pain she showed so much love. And in the end... she was still graceful, she didn't come undone. Somehow she made it through to the other side... and she didn't suffer in vain.

To Ron and Sharon: Now that Elsie has passed on, please remember that your loss is shared by those who care and understand.
