Uncle Jim was certainly a very good uncle to his nephew and godson, James Regis Osial. Uncle Jim was so very happy to serve as Jimmy's godfather in 1984. It was Uncle Jim who sent Jimmy the airplane ticket in 2002 to fly from Connecticut to California to check out west coast schools, and it was Uncle Jim who encouraged Jimmy to apply to Stanford. It was Uncle Jim who was elated when Jimmy was accepted there. He opened his home to Jimmy (saving Jimmy's parents--me being one of them!-- lots of dorm and cafeteria fees!), loaned him his car when Jimmy found a part time job and threw a huge party for him at graduation. He always prepared Jimmy's income tax returns and talked to him about IRAs and other tax and financial matters, always giving good, practical advice. He treated Jimmy as if he were his own child, and Jimmy's wife, Layla, the same way, too. Uncle Jim was a great blessing to all of us, but especially to Jimmy. We are sorry that he has died so young, but we are very, very, grateful to have had him in our lives.
