Resident of Redwood City

Mary Katherine Swanson, long time resident of Redwood City, left this world November 10, 2010 after a courageous fight with cancer. She was 62.

She was predeceased by William, her husband of 34 years and her father, Arnold Carl Pool. She is survived by her mother, Onie Starr Pool and her son Anthony Diaz both of Redwood City. She is also survived by her brother Michael Kim Pool of McCall, Idaho and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was born on August 3, 1948 in Dalton, Georgia. In 1950 Mary and her mother moved to the bay area where she attended Fair Oaks Elementary School, McKinley Jr. High and graduated from San Carlos High School. After college, her working years were spent with various local companies including: Ampex, Lenkurt, Arthur J. McKee, Addison Wesley Publishing and North American Title. Mary excelled in her profession and always had a warm smile for everyone she worked with.

While her work kept her busy Mary's main focus was her son Anthony. She loved and nurtured him with gentle tenderness. She felt lucky to be blessed with a son and her pride in him showed in her eyes each time she saw him. Mary was also blessed with many talents. She cooked like a professional and her needlepoint was flawless. Many hours were patiently spent creating fabulous works of art for her family. We will treasure them always.

Mary's nature was sweet and sincere. Her consistent smile endeared her to all who met her and those who loved her looked forward to the comforting cheer felt when her smile was for them.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 17 at 11:00 am at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 400 Woodside Rd., Redwood City. The family asks that donations be made to the Pathways Hospice Foundation, 585 N. Mary Ave. Sunnyvale, CA 94085. Crippen & Flynn
