Rosemary Mirko

Resident of Gilroy
Rosi Mirko of Gilroy CA, age 55, died peacefully in her sleep at home with her sister holding her hands. Rosi fought the cancer that ravaged her body and endured the sudden death of her beloved husband of 27 years, Albert, last July. Rosi lived through it all without complaint. She maintained her beautiful composure with grace and dignity to the end. Rosi & Albert are together again in paradise.
Rosi is survived by her daughter, Tamara Poythress, four grandchildren, and siblings, Debra Sketchley, Richard Nelson, Ruthann Olsen, William Smeltzer, Samuel Smeltzer. As well as her beloved nieces and nephews.
Rosi was the founder and director of Town Cats, a nonprofit cat shelter and adoption center in Morgan Hill. Rosi was a champion for thousands for animal rights throughout San Jose and the South County region. She was a charter member of Mensa International.

Rosi,
I'm sorry I missed your memorial service. But you know how much I love and respect you, so we'll still "talk" if you know what I mean. You started me out in all this "TNR and feral advocacy mess"..back in 1998, and I never knew if I wanted to hug you , or kick you, for that ! LOL You have saved many, and have been an inspiration to many.
I hope I can keep making you proud with Feral Freedom Program.

Hey Rosi, We are all going to miss you, you were the best to all those cats at the shelter and worked many long hard hours to try and keep them alive and get them adopted out. I enjoyed working there many years and you sure are going to be missed! We all love you and will be praying for your family and for Town Cats to survive and adopt out many more kitties down the road.

Rosi was a wonderful person and I deeply regret that I did not have more years to get to know her better. She always made us volunteers and donors feel like our contributions, no matter how small, were very important. Thousands of cats survived and had better lives because of her work. All of us -- and the cats -- are lucky to have had our lives touched by Rosi's bright spirit.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. She was a leader for the cat rescue community, and her advocacy and devotion for homeless cats has been instrumental in saving thousands of lives. I am so sorry for your loss. The cat world will never be the same without Rosi, but her legacy lives on forever. My condolences to the family at this time of loss. She gave me the best friend I ever had, Bookers (my oldest cat) and I am grateful. I will miss her terribly, but know she is in heaven looking down upon us and smiles every time a cat is adopted :)

I'm so sorry for the loss of a wonderful person who had a heart of gold and was a strong voice for all the animals. She saved so many kitties that would have never made it out of the shelters. She took the elderly cats when no other rescue groups would, she took in the sick and injured cats and the bottle babies. She was one of a kind. My condolences to her family at this time of loss.
