Antoniette (Toni) Welsh

May 19, 1927 - January 8, 2011

Resident of San Jose

Toni was born in San Mateo California to Joseph and Mary Vella on May 19, 1927 at Mills Hospital. Toni shared her childhood with her two sisters, Ann Caiocca and Mary Maillard. She grew up living in San Mateo, Burlingame, and Palo Alto. In 1946 she graduated from Palo Alto High School. Toni went to work for the Telephone Company in San Francisco after graduating from High School.

She met her husband to be, William Welsh and the two were married on July 19, 1948. The two were married for 42 years when William past away in 1990. Toni left the work force so that she could raise her four children: Pattie, Bill, Barbara and Shirley. Later in life she would work part time for S&W Cannery in Redwood City, allowing her to be a full time mother to her four children. After raising her children Toni entered her new career as the "Lunch Lady" for the San Mateo Elementary School District on May 20, 1981. She retired after 19 wonderful years working with the children. Toni received numerous awards from the School District, her most cherished award was the "Honorary Service Award" given to her on March 29, 2000 from Laurel School from which she retired.

Toni will be missed by her children Pattie Giggy (Chuck), Bill Welsh, Barbara Chittka (Ed) and Shirley Johnson (Brian); her Grandchildren Kellie Seigars, Kristina Sifers, Steven and Courtney Chittka, Danielle and Brandon Johnson; Great Grandchildren Dannie, Madison, Ryan and Lauren Seigars, Nicole, Aaron and Natalie Sifers; sisters Ann Caiocca and Mary Maillard; brother-in-law, James Welsh.

Friends may visit on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 6 - 9 pm and may attend a Vigil Service at 7pm at SNEIDER & SULLIVAN & O'CONNELL'S FUNERAL HOME, 977 So. El Camino Real in San Mateo. A Committal Service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11am at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma.
