Carolyn Page Obituary

Carolyn Page

Resident of San Jose

On Sept. 29, 2010, our dear Mother passed away in her home surrounded by her children. She fought a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She's preceded in death by her late husband, Virgil R. Page.

She was the only child born to Carroll and Vivian Crolley. Her father was a Baptist minister and her mother was a church organist and home maker. She was raised in Arkansas. Her family later moved to California. She worked as a Secretary at Linder's Hardware Store in Tulare, Ca. where she met and fell in love with Dad. They married and moved to San Jose where he could pursue his education at San Jose State University. Dad was the love of her life. They were happily married for 37 years.

While helping to raise the family, she worked part-time. She was very active in PTA, as well as a Sunday School Teacher at Alum Rock Covenant Church. She worked 22 years for the City of San Jose. She was Secretary to Police Chief Joseph Mc Namara.

Mother was a very soft spoken lady, ever patient and full of dignity. Her home was always filled with love. Everyone who knew her, immediately fell in love with her. She cherished her family and her blue eyes would light up when family would come to visit her. Nothing was more important to her than being surrounded by family. She was proud of her Irish roots and loved working on the family's genealogy. She was a kind, sweet woman who never complained, never said "no", and always wanted to make others happy. She often said she didn't want to bother anyone. She taught us to forgive and forget, faith, love, generosity, and to accept the things in life that we can't change. She never asked for anything, but always gave of everything that she had. Mother taught us to laugh at life and to say, "I love you" often.

She leaves behind her 3 children Michael (& Vicki) Page (of San Jose), Greg (& Stephanie) Page (of Turlock), and Lori (& Jimmy) Jones (of Milpitas) as well as 4 grand children, (Dawniel, Lindsay, Aaron and Adam) and 4 great grand children.

She didn't want anyone to be filled with sadness or shed any tears; At her request, no services will be held. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Santa Clara County.

Carolyn was a class act while working in the Chief's Office. Her smile was genuine and her personality pleasant. I do remember how soft spoken she was. And although she is the most innocent individual I have ever met, she had a wonderful sense of humor. It is very true that she never complained and I never heard her say no to anyone. She and Barbara were an inspiration. I'm lucky to have been a part of her life. Rest in Peace.

I will remember Lori’s mom as I always remembered her smiling and asking how our day went in school. She was a quiet reserved lady, but one could feel that Carolyn was filled with a stoic inner strength which she passed onto her family through her love and nurturing. She will truly be missed Love Nora and Gwyne

I had the pleasure of working with Carolyn in the Special Investigations Unit at the San Jose Police Department. She was so nice, efficient, and sometimes knew what the question or request would be before it was asked. She had the uncanny ability to read people and things quite well. She also had a wonderful sense of humor. The other thing that was so memorable about Carolyn was the devotion to her family, especially her husband Bob. She loved her family so much, and it was so evident by the energy she put forth even though she was employed full time. I don't know of anyone who didn't like Carolyn Page. I often times think of Carolyn but now I know she is with God in Heaven alongside her beloved Bob.

Mother, as we called her, was a true Lady of the South. She was the kindest dearest person I ever met and when the disease took her, it was hard because I lost not only a mom but a dear friend and mentor. She epitomized the term Steel Magnolia. Mother had a very sweet demeaner with an IRON will. She saved my dad's life when he was stuck in the County Hospital with polio in the early 50's and had withered away to less than 100#. She fought for him and finally got him transferred to the VA hospital in oakland where he recooperated for 2 years. She took the bus from SJ to oakland as often as possible to see him and yet held down a job and raised my older brother. All this done when women were supposed to be seen and not heard. Yet, she firmly stood up to all the male administraters to save her husband and ultimately, won his recovery. Thank you, Mother- I love and truly miss you.

Carolyn was always sweet and encouraging to me. She shared a birthdate with my Dad, so I will always think of her on Oct 20. I know I will see her one day in heaven.

Carolyn, you taught me the art of being a wonderful mother-in-law. You always made me feel like I was the smartest, loveliest and most successful woman in the world, and you couldn't have asked better for your son. That is truly a wonderful gift to give a daughter-in-law, and I will forever be grateful for that. We love you, Mother, and we will miss your love and loyalty, your humor and funny stories, your devotion to us and the rest of your family. We know you're with Daddy in heaven, and we will see you there someday. With much love from your grateful daughter-in-love.
