Cooper Young Obituary

Cooper Patrick Young Has returned home to our Heavenly Father. He passed away January 29, 2010 from what appears to be a form of meningitis. Cooper was born on June 13, 2008 to Patrick and Lindsay Johnston Young and lived a short, yet vibrant life which touched people from literally around the world. Cooper loved to talk in long, unrecognizable sentences, play in or around anything resembling a fountain, laugh with his friends and family, and play any game that involved a ball. Cooper loved the beauty of nature and especially any kind of furry or fuzzy animal he encountered. His quick moving illness shocked us and has filled us with sorrow, but we have hope in the eternal nature of our souls and in the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Cooper's absence will bring us sadness and grief, but our memories of him fill us with joy. His parents would like to thank the dedicated doctors and nurses at El Camino and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital for their brief, but loving care of our sweet baby boy. Their efforts inspire us and bring us hope. Friends are invited to visit with us to remember Cooper at an open house from 6-8 PM on Friday, February 5th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 771 West Fremont Ave, Sunnyvale, CA. Friends may also visit with us at the same location on Saturday, February 6th at 11 AM, with a Memorial Service to follow at 12 noon. We invite you to wear colorful clothing. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Cooper Young Memorial Children's Book Fund (PO Box 60211, Sunnyvale, CA 94088-0211) as we try to honor his legacy by blessing the lives of children in our community.

Dear Patrick and Lindsay,
We were grieved and feel your pain at the loss of your precious little boy. It is consoling to know that you are bound to him eternally. We hope that the Savior's Atonement will fill you with comfort and peace as well as the many prayers that are being offered in your behalf. Please convey to your parents, Patrick, our love and sorrow for them as I know how much we treasure our grandchildren and I know this is a great loss to them. We love your family so much and have many great memories from our years in North Salt Lake. May the Lord bless and be with you.

Patrick and Lindsay--I was so sad to hear about your darling little boy. He sounds like a real treasure and the world will have a great void without him in it. I'm sure the days ahead will feel empty and bleak without him, but the gospel brings us such comfort in the knowledge that you will be with him again. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love, Mark and Carolyn Zaugg (Carolyn is Shauni's cousin)

I am finding that the best and finest seem to be visited with the greatest of pain which must be the death of a child. And somehow these dear people survive. While I do not believe God "puts us to the test": I do bear witness that people grow and also become more blessed through enormous heartbreak. You are the best of people and have been greatly blessed with having this beautiful child in your lives and although at this time knowing you will have him again does not help---it is true. God bless you and keep you through the coming days.

Patrick and Lindsey, How blessed you are to be given the opportunity to have Cooper and what an honor it is to be his parents and know that the Lord trusted you enough to know that He could call Cooper home long before we think it is time. May you know that are prayers are with you and all of the family that they may realize how blessed our lives are.

This has been a sad week for all of us. We would not wish this event on anyone, but know that we are not always in charge of life and death situations. Our hearts go out to you with our deepest sympathy, having experienced similar separations with our boys. We are praying for you daily. With much love and concern, Kent and Pat Parker and family
