Don Burnett

Resident of Cupertino

Former Cupertino Mayor and City Councilman Don Burnett, a longtime bicycle advocate and former Lockheed engineer, died on Saturday, September 11, at age 78. Burnett is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Jill Staten, son Ken Burnett, granddaughters Alina and Holly Staten, son-in-law Troy Staten, brother John Burnett of Hermosa Beach, and half-sister, Claudia Sumler of Baltimore, Maryland. Giving to his community was a significant part of Burnett's life.

Donations in his memory to a meaningful organization selected by the giver are suggested. One possibility is Hospice of the Valley, 4850 Union Avenue, San Jose, CA 95124-5156. A Celebration of Life is planned for Monday, October 11, from 2-4pm, at Quinlan Community Center, 10185 Stelling Road, Cupertino.

thanks for all you have done for us all in cupertino, on the cupertino city council and the bicycle and pedestrian commission, you will be missed by us all, and for your service and admiration for the youth, the elderly, the disabled and the handicapped, we are all better because of the great don burnett, cupertino would not have been what it is if it would not have been for don burnett. you will be missed by us all. you will always have a special place in our heart. and the mary avenue bicycle footbridge would not have happened if it would not have been for the outstanding don burnett.
